Tangential velocity measurements in a conical hydrocyclone operated with a fibre suspension
The tangential velocity flow field in a conical hydrocyclone was measured using a self-cleaning pitometer. The influence of pulp fibre concentration on the tangential velocity profile was of particular interest.

Experimental investigation on free surface vortices driven by tangential inlets [PDF]
Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements have been carried out in order to analyze the structure of free surface vortices in a promoting geometry with two tangential inlets. Velocity fields associated to the free surface vortex have been obtained at

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Scaling laws of flow structures around geometrically similar fire whirls
This paper discusses the scaling laws of the flow structures around geometrically similar fire whirls, an insight that will be necessary when applying laboratory-scale data to real-scale fire whirls in urban or wildland fires.

How to deal with point correspondences and tangential velocities in the level set framework [PDF]
In this report, we overcome a major drawback of the level set framework: the lack of point correspondences. We maintain explicit backward correspondences from the evolving interface to the initial one by advecting the initial point coordinates with the same velocity as the level set function.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

The axial width of pump chamber has a great influence on the flow characteristics of the pump chamber in the centrifugal pump. A single-stage single-suction double volute centrifugal pump with a semi-open impeller was selected as the object.

A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...
