Co‐localization of tau and TDP‐43 after extracellular vesicle delivery to cells

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from donor cells transfected with EGFP–2N4R‐tau or mCherry‐wtTDP‐43 were taken up by recipient cells, leading to cytosolic co‐localization of tau and TDP‐43. Molecular modeling revealed that tau and TDP‐43 directly interact through hydrogen bonding, suggesting a mechanistic link underlying their co‐pathology ...

The ALS‐associated E425K mutation uncouples DNAJC7 from the Hsp70 chaperone cycle

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
DNAJC7 is a J‐domain protein that plays a key role in protein quality control by regulating Hsp70 activity and preventing protein aggregation. We find that the ALS‐associated E425K mutation in DNAJC7 disrupts productive interaction and activation of Hsp70, thereby blocking the transfer and refolding of client proteins such as TDP‐43.

Larval Transport Pathways Reveal Critical Habitat and Benefits of a Marine Protected Area to Fisheries

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Quantifying where marine organisms are born and subsequently disperse to is essential for fisheries management. Here, we conducted Lagrangian particle tracking of viviparous rockfish (Sebastes spp.) collected in the Southern California Bight over the course of 16 years.

Empowerment for People With Lived Experience of the Justice System? Peer Leadership and the ‘Spectrum of Public Participation’

open access: yesThe Howard Journal of Crime and Justice, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drawing from Arnstein's original ladder model, and the political philosophy of Dewey, Fraser and Pitkin, it is argued that people with lived experience of the justice system require a coherent social movement if they are to be collectively empowered by lived experience consultations.

Sensemaking, Inequity and Agency in a Precarious Transnational Workspace: The Case of International Seafarers

open access: yesIndustrial Relations Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT International seafarers are highly trained and certificated workers but are subject to precaritising working conditions. This affects how they understand and respond to perceived inequities in relation to terms and conditions of employment.
