The influence of E× B drift on tungsten target erosion and W impurity transport during neon seeding on EAST

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2023
Mitigating tungsten (W) wall erosion and core accumulation are vitally important for the steady-state operation of tokamaks. It is well known that drifts have a great impact on the transport of charged particles in the edge region, which could affect W ...

Design of EAST lower divertor by considering target erosion and tungsten ion transport during the external impurity seeding

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2021
To demonstrate the performance of tungsten (W) as the divertor target material and to solve the power handling problem during high power long-pulse discharge, the upgrade of EAST lower divertor is planned.

Control of tungsten impurity source and edge transport using different gas injection with full tungsten divertor on EAST

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2022
Tungsten (W) erosion and edge transport are investigated for EAST L-mode discharges with different gas injection. It is found that W erosion can be suppressed or mitigated by Ne or D2 seeding when divertor detachment is achieved.

Elucidating the specific and combined effects of particle size, impact angle, velocity and stress from an external load on the slurry erosion of mild steel S275JR

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2021
Erosion is known to cost the oil and gas industry millions of dollars in maintenance and repairs. While velocity, particle size, angle of impact and material properties such as hardness of particle and target are known to affect erosion rate, little is ...

Target erosion process during broad ion beam sputtering using 3D modeling of ion trajectories

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
Understanding the distribution of particles sputtered from a target requires an appreciation of how ions impinge on the target. In pursuit of this goal, a fully three-dimensional model of the ion trajectories in a broad ion beam, assuming full space ...

Investigation of target erosion profiles sputter-eroded by a low-energy broad ion beam

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2021
The demand for ion beam sputtering (IBS) coated substrates is growing. In order to find new fields of application for IBS coating technology, it is necessary to understand in detail the distributions of the involved particles in an industrial-scale ...

Computational Analysis of Water-Submerged Jet Erosion

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Erosion causes substantial damage in many industrial equipment such as pump components, valves, elbows, and plugged tees. In most cases, erosion is coupled with corrosion, resulting in major financial loss (nearly 3.4% of the global gross domestic ...

High resolution powder blast micromachining [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Powder blasting, or Abrasive Jet Machining (AJM), is a technique in which a particle jet is directed towards a target for mechanical material removal. It is a fast, cheap and accurate directional etch technique for brittle materials like glass, silicon ...

Erosion of dust aggregates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Aims: The aim of this work is to gain a deeper insight into how much different aggregate types are affected by erosion. Especially, it is important to study the influence of the velocity of the impacting projectiles.

Numerical analysis of tungsten erosion and deposition processes under a DEMO divertor plasma

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2017
Erosion reduction of tungsten (W) divertor target is one of the most important research subjects for the DEMO fusion reactor design, because the divertor target has to sustain large fluence of incident particles, composed mainly of fuel ions and seeded ...
