Metabolomic investigation of cisplatin‐induced acute kidney injury in paediatric cancer patients

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aim Cisplatin causes acute kidney injury (AKI) in approximately 46% of paediatric cancer patients who receive it. Serum creatinine (SCr) is a poor biomarker of cisplatin nephrotoxicity, because there is a delay between cisplatin infusion and SCr elevation.

Reciprocal regulation between taurine and glutamate response via Ca2+- dependent pathways in retinal third-order neurons

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2010
Although taurine and glutamate are the most abundant amino acids conducting neural signals in the central nervous system, the communication between these two neurotransmitters is largely unknown.

The effect of taurine supplementation on the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system of dogs with congestive heart failure

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
The role of taurine in the treatment of congestive heart failure (CHF) in dogs without systemic deficiency is unexplored. Taurine might have beneficial cardiac effects aside from deficit replacement.

Mediated Electrochemical Probing and Machine Learning for Cysteine and Reduced Monoclonal Antibody Quantification

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biopharmaceutical manufacturing requires robust analytics and process controls throughout production to insure high yield of quality products. New methodologies for rapidly accessing and integrating data‐rich information from complex dynamic biological environments are of great interest.

Investigation on the action mechanisms of taurine on rumen microbial crude protein synthesis and nitrogen metabolism in beef steers using sodium sulfate as a contrast

open access: yesAnimal Nutrition
Taurine is a sulfur-containing nonproteinogenic amino acid. Recent studies have shown that taurine can improve rumen microbial crude protein (MCP) synthesis. This experiment aimed to investigate the action mechanisms of taurine on rumen MCP synthesis and

Mitochondrial proteomics: analysis of a whole mitochondrial extract with two-dimensional electrophoresis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Mitochondria are complex organelles, and their proteomics analysis requires a combination of techniques. The emphasis in this chapter is made first on mitochondria preparation from cultured mammalian cells, then on the separation of the mitochondrial ...

Fear of grazing rivals the toxin‐inducing effects of nutrients in two marine harmful algae – a meta‐analysis

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT One of the major subfields of chemical ecology is the study of toxins and how they mediate interactions between organisms. Toxins produced by harmful algae (phycotoxins) impact a wide variety of organisms connected to the marine food web. Significant research efforts have thus aimed to identify the ecological and evolutionary drivers behind ...

Taurine does not affect the composition, diversity, or metabolism of human colonic microbiota simulated in a single-batch fermentation system. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Accumulating evidence suggests that dietary taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid) exerts beneficial anti-inflammatory effects in the large intestine.

Myocardial inflammation is associated with impaired mitochondrial oxidative capacity in ischaemic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1246-1255, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Myocardial inflammation and impaired mitochondrial oxidative capacity are hallmarks of heart failure (HF) pathophysiology. The extent of myocardial inflammation in patients suffering from ischaemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and its association with mitochondrial energy metabolism are unknown.

Taurine and the renal system

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2010
Taurine participates in a number of different physiologic and biologic processes in the kidney, often reflected by urinary excretion patterns. The kidney is key to aspects of taurine body pool size and homeostasis.
