Winter grafting of oaks Quercus L.

open access: yesHorticultural Science, 2006
In the years 1999-2004 the propagation technology of winter grafting was studied in five oak taxa: Quercus frainetto, Q. macranthera, Q. pubescens ssp. anatolica, Q. virgiliana and Q. robur Fastigiata.

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

Microbial exopolysaccharide production by polyextremophiles in the adaptation to multiple extremes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Polyextremophiles are microorganisms that endure multiple extreme conditions by various adaptation strategies that also include the production of exopolysaccharides (EPSs). This review provides an integrated perspective on EPS biosynthesis, function, and regulation in these organisms, emphasizing their critical role in survival and highlighting their ...

Assessing Inhalation Exposures Associated with Contamination Events in Water Distribution Systems. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
When a water distribution system (WDS) is contaminated, short-term inhalation exposures to airborne contaminants could occur as the result of domestic water use. The most important domestic sources of such exposures are likely to be showering and the use

Taxon Sampling, Bioinformatics, and Phylogenomics [PDF]

open access: yesSystematic Biology, 2003
Taxon sampling is often thought to be of extreme importance for phylogenetic inference, and increased sampling of taxa is commonly advocated as a solution to resolving problematic phylogenies. Another solution is to increase the number of sites (by sequencing additional genes) sampled for each taxon.

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

Microregion – A Regional Taxon Interposed between Commune and County [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Review of Regional Studies, 2014
Unlike other countries belonging to the European Community, where the territorial grid was arranged in the matrix provided by the territorial units for statistics (NUTS) on five distinct hierarchical levels: macro-regions, regions, departments (districts)

Pseudobankesia keersmaekersi sp. n., a new species from Greece (Lepidoptera, Psychidae, Taleporiinae)

open access: yesNota Lepidopterologica, 2017
Pseudobankesia keersmaekersi sp. n. (Lepidoptera, Psychidae, Taleporiinae) is described from Greece and compared with its likely close relatives Pseudobankesia arahova Stengel, 1990 and Pseudobankesia darwinii Stengel, 1990.

Mass imbalances in EPANET water-quality simulations [PDF]

open access: yesDrinking Water Engineering and Science, 2018
EPANET is widely employed to simulate water quality in water distribution systems. However, in general, the time-driven simulation approach used to determine concentrations of water-quality constituents provides accurate results only for short water ...

Comparative Analysis of Core Microbiome Assignments: Implications for Ecological Synthesis

open access: yesmSystems, 2023
The concept of a core microbiome has been broadly used to refer to the consistent presence of a set of taxa across multiple samples within a given habitat.
