Low functional β-diversity despite high taxonomic β-diversity among tropical estuarine fish communities.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
The concept of β-diversity, defined as dissimilarity among communities, has been widely used to investigate biodiversity patterns and community assembly rules. However, in ecosystems with high taxonomic β-diversity, due to marked environmental gradients,

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Investigating the effect of forestry on leaf-litter arthropods (Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada).

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Arthropods are the most diverse taxonomic group of terrestrial eukaryotes and are sensitive to physical alterations in their environment such as those caused by forestry.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Taxonomic and functional diversities reveal different fish assemblage dynamics of stow net fishery in Haizhou Bay

open access: yesHeliyon
Biodiversity is the cornerstone of marine fisheries. To ensure the prosperity of stow net fishery in Haizhou Bay, regular investigations of fishery resources are essential.

A new proposed measure for estimating taxonomic diversity

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Forestry, 2018
Recently, Deng Entropy has been received attention and began to use in many real application. That entropic measure was improved in the Dempster-Shafer Evidential Theory (DSET) and based on the basic probability assignment. The present study offers a new

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Modest functional diversity decline and pronounced composition shifts of microbial communities in a mixed waste-contaminated aquifer

open access: yesMicrobiome
Background Microbial taxonomic diversity declines with increased environmental stress. Yet, few studies have explored whether phylogenetic and functional diversities track taxonomic diversity along the stress gradient.

Patterns and drivers of waterbird alpha and beta diversity are different between arid and humid regions of China

open access: yesAvian Research
Waterbirds are vital for wetland ecosystems, but climate change and human activities are harming these habitats globally, reducing biodiversity and threatening waterbird survival. In China, wetlands in humid and arid regions face quite different threats,
