New perspectives on VEGF signalling in Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Emery et al. bring together findings from recent multi‐omic studies, including single‐cell mRNA analysis of human post‐mortem brain tissue, and proteomic analysis of matched CSF and blood samples in large clinical studies. The authors present evidence of the involvement of altered VEGF signalling in vascular and immune dysfunction and neurodegeneration

Psychedelics, entactogens and psychoplastogens for depression and related disorders

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Currently, the most actively investigated rapidly acting antidepressants, anxiolytics and/or anti PTSD agents, include psychedelics e.g. psilocybin, LSD, N,N‐dimethyltryptamine, ayahuasca; non‐hallucinogenic entactogens, e.g. MDMA; psychoplastogens which rapidly promote neuroplasticity, e.g.

Next‐Generation Strategies for Neural Repair and Regeneration: Neural Organoid Transplantation in the CNS

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Neurological disorders are hard to treat. Stem cell‐derived neural organoids enable research, and their transplantation aids CNS therapy, with this article reviewing relevant advances, challenges and prospects. ABSTRACT Neurological disorders are often devastating and notoriously difficult to repair, creating an urgent need for novel research models ...

S1 Guideline on Infected Interdigital Intertrigo (also called Gram‐Negative Toe Web Infection)

open access: yesJDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, EarlyView.
Summary Infected interdigital intertrigo is an exudative, macerating, mixed infection of the toe webs in which gram‐negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacterales) seem prevalent, but in which gram‐positive pathogens (Staphylococcus [S.] aureus, streptococci, enterococci) and fungi (dermatophytes, yeasts) also occur.

What controls forest litter decomposition? A coordinated distributed teabag experiment across ten mountains

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Litter decomposition in mountainous forest ecosystems is an essential process that affects carbon and nutrient cycling. However, the contribution of litter decomposition to terrestrial ecosystems is difficult to estimate accurately because of the limited comparability of different studies and limited data on local microclimatic and non‐climatic factors.

Individual characteristics associated with youth symptom reports and persisting symptoms after concussion

open access: yesJournal of Neuropsychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Dissonant approaches for measuring persisting symptoms after concussion (PSaC) make it difficult to predict who will experience prolonged symptoms. We sought to identify medical and sociodemographic characteristics associated with symptom burden and assess how such factors shape symptom evolution and PSaC classification after mild traumatic ...

Psychosocial outcomes in young adults with childhood traumatic brain injury: A 20‐year follow‐up study

open access: yesJournal of Neuropsychology, EarlyView.
Abstract We assessed the proportion of childhood TBI survivors who experienced favourable or less favourable psychosocial outcomes (defined as less favourable when 20% or more of the sample report difficulties or unmet needs) compared to controls and to explore factors associated with these outcomes at 20 years post‐TBI.

Evidence‐Based Mouth and Oral Health Individualised Treatment Plan in Adults With Acquired Brain Injury: A Cluster Nonrandomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
An individualised, item‐specific, nurse‐implemented OHC plan guided by structured screening and clinical assessment improved gingival inflammation and oral hygiene compared with routine care in adults with ABI within a multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation setting.

Valproic acid for treatment of traumatic brain injury: Study protocol for the VIBRANT prospective randomized trial

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Traumatic brain injury (TBI) carries significant mortality and morbidity in civilian and military populations. Current treatment guidelines for TBI are primarily supportive, and no pharmacological agent exists to attenuate the progression of brain injury.

Endothelial thrombomodulin—Its role in trauma‐induced coagulopathy

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Trauma‐induced coagulopathy (TIC) describes a complex set of coagulation changes affecting severely injured patients. The thrombomodulin‐protein C axis is central to the evolution of TIC. Soluble thrombomodulin (sTM) levels are elevated after injury and predict poor clinical outcomes.
