TCP-Friendly Rate Control for Streaming Service Over 3G Network

open access: closed2006 International Conference on Wireless Communications, Networking and Mobile Computing, 2006
Rate control is an important issue in streaming applications over wireless network. TFRC is a widely accepted rate control protocol in wired networks, but it has a serious shortcoming that it cannot distinguish the wireless channel error based loss rate from the total packet loss rate measured at streaming client.

An Improved TCP Friendly Rate Control Algorithm for Wireless Networks

open access: closedIEICE Transactions on Fundamentals of Electronics, Communications and Computer Sciences, 2011
SUMMARY TCP Friendly Rate Control (TFRC) has been widely used in the Internet multimedia streaming applications. However, performance of traditional TFRC algorithm degrades significantly when d eployed over wireless networks. Although numerous TFRC variants have been proposed to improve the performance of TFRC over wireless networks, designing a TFRC ...

ATFRC: Adaptive TCP Friendly Rate Control Protocol

open access: closed, 2003
TFRC (TCP Friendly Rate Control) is a \(\it rate\it-\it based\it\) congestion control protocol for non-TCP flows. TFRC controls the sending rate by using the TCP throughput equation considering the triple duplicate ACKs and the timeouts. However, this equation provides the conservative throughput bound of TCP.

Wireless TCP-Friendly Rate Control over the DCCP Transport Protocol

open access: closed2008 The Fourth International Conference on Wireless and Mobile Communications, 2008
TCP-Friendly Rate control (TFRC) is a Loss based rate control mechanism. It uses TCP equation throughput for calculating the sending rate. This equation is a function of loss event rate. TFRC assumes any lost packet as a signal of network congestion and correspondingly reduces its transmission rate.

CAM02-3: TERM: TCP Friendly Explicit Rate Congestion Control for MPLS Networks

open access: closedIEEE Globecom 2006, 2006
In this paper we present a TCP friendly explicit rate congestion control mechanism for MPLS networks (TERM). The components of the TERM system include a method for using resource reservation protocol (RSVP) to signal explicit rate information, a weight proportional max-min (WPMM) algorithm that calculates weighted fair rates in O(l) time, and a ...

DVTS/XCAST with TCP-Friendly Rate Control

2007 4th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, 2007
Adaptive-ness of multicast stream is a strongly desired for P2P multicast to be accepted broadly on the Internet. One way to achieve this is use the layered multicast technique. But it was pointed out that there are obstacles to apply it on the Internet.

AIMD-TCP-Friendly Rate Control Over Wireless Networks

2008 4th International Conference on Wireless Communications, Networking and Mobile Computing, 2008
Multimedia applications have been widely developed. These applications use TCP-friendly congestion control mechanisms. One of the congestion control mechanisms which multimedia applications use is the TCP-friendly rate control (TFRC). This mechanism is designed for wired networks which any packet loss indicates congestion loss and the sending rate is ...
