Influence of alloying elements on hot tearing susceptibility of Mg–Zn alloys based on thermodynamic calculation and experimental

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2018
Based on the hot tearing index |∆T/∆(fs)0.5| recently proposed by Kou and the thermodynamic calculations of Pandat software, Al, Cu, and Mn elements were picked up and their influence on hot tearing susceptibility of Mg–xZn (x = 6, 8, 10, wt%) alloys was

Global linear and nonlinear gyrokinetic simulations of tearing modes

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
To better understand multi-scale interactions between global tearing modes and microturbulence in the Madison Symmetric Torus (MST) reversed-field pinch (RFP), the global gyrokinetic code Gene is modified to describe global tearing mode instability via a

EMT‐associated bias in the Parsortix® system observed with pancreatic cancer cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The Parsortix® system was tested for CTC enrichment using pancreatic cancer cell lines with different EMT phenotypes. Spike‐in experiments showed lower recovery of mesenchymal‐like cells. This was confirmed with an EMT‐inducible breast cancer cell line.

DLTM: a deep learning method for tearing mode simulation and prediction

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Tearing modes are harmful magnetohydrodynamic instabilities in tokamaks that reduce plasma confinement by altering the magnetic field and forming magnetic islands.

Evaluation and modification of tumor cell isolation techniques from malignant effusions for rapid drug sensitivity testing

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐small cell lung cancer targeted treatment is limited to a few known genetic alterations, with few alternatives in advanced treatment lines. To direct treatment decisions by drug sensitivity testing (DST), this study compared several methods for tumor cell isolation from malignant effusions, pointing to repeated CD45+ cell depletion for effective ...

Collisionless Tearing Instability in Relativistic Nonthermal Pair Plasma and Its Application to MHD Turbulence

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Collisionless tearing instability with a power-law distribution function in a relativistic pair plasma with a guide field is studied. When the current sheet is supported by plasma pressure, the tearing mode is suppressed as the particle spectrum hardens.

Kinetic simulations of the coupling between current instabilities and reconnection in thin current sheets [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2000
We investigate the coupling between current and tearing instability modes of a thin current sheet using the particle code GISMO. We identify pure tearing modes (kx≠ 0), instabilities in the current flow direction (ky≠ 0) and general 3D reconnection modes
