Cytomegalovirus infection is common in prostate cancer and antiviral therapies inhibit progression in disease models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Human cytomegalovirus infection is common in normal prostate epithelium, prostate tumor tissue, and prostate cancer cell lines. CMV promotes cell survival, proliferation, and androgen receptor signaling. Anti‐CMV pharmaceutical compounds in clinical use inhibited cell expansion in prostate cancer models in vitro and in vivo, motivating investigation ...

Tearing: Breakthrough in Human Emotional Signaling

open access: yesEvolutionary Psychology, 2009
Tearing is not a benign secretory correlate of sadness or other emotional state, but a potent visual cue that adds meaning to human facial expression, the tear effect .

Finite-element analyses and fracture simulation in thin-sheet aluminum alloy [PDF]

open access: yes
A two-dimensional, elastic-plastic finite-element analysis was used with a critical crack-tip-opening angle (CTOA) fracture criterion to model stable crack growth in thin-sheet 2024-T3 aluminum alloy under monotonic loading after precracking at different

Integrative miRNOMe profiling reveals the miR‐195‐5p–CHEK1 axis and its impact on luminal breast cancer outcomes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In luminal (ER+) breast carcinoma (BC), miRNA profiling identified miR‐195‐5p as a key regulator of proliferation that targets CHEK1, CDC25A, and CCNE1. High CHEK1 expression correlates with worse relapse‐free survival after chemotherapy, especially in patients with luminal A subtype.

Nothing But Tears

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2009
What do I do My little one, Lying oh so low? Is all that I do For me or for you, Hoping for a cure? Do I take your hand, Do I let you lie, Do I leave you alone in the snow? To do no harm, To close my bag, To treat you with nothing but tears.

Mirrors and Tears

open access: yesScreenworks, 2020
Mirrors and Tears, is a short film by Pavel Prokopic which explores the potential of film to give rise to a feeling of meaning (affective significance) by combining chance, aspects of audio-visual style and nuances of performance – offsetting, in the process, a coherent sense of space, story and fictional characters.

Can prominences form in current sheets [PDF]

open access: yes
Two-dimensional numerical simulations of the formation of cold condensations in a vertical current sheet have been performed using the radiative, resistive MHD equations with line-tied boundary conditions at one end of the sheet.

ITGAV and SMAD4 influence the progression and clinical outcome of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In SMAD4‐positive pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), integrin subunit alpha V (ITGAV) activates latent TGF‐β, which binds to the TGF‐β receptor and phosphorylates SMAD2/3. The activated SMAD2/3 forms a complex with SMAD4, and together they translocate to the nucleus, modulating gene expression to promote proliferation, migration, and invasion. In
