Transitions to tearing mode instability
It is shown that a current profile which is initially stable to tearing instabilities can, through self-consistent evolution, make a transition to a profile which is unstable to tearing. The model process considered is the slow compression of a slab of plasma bounded by conducting boundaries.

Fast reconnection in relativistic plasmas: the magnetohydrodynamics tearing instability revisited [PDF]
Fast reconnection operating in magnetically dominated plasmas is often invoked in models for magnetar giant flares, for magnetic dissipation in pulsar winds, or to explain the gamma-ray flares observed in the Crab nebula; hence, its investigation is of ...

Entropy‐Driven Design of Low‐Melting‐Point Alloys via Compositionally Complex Strategy
Conventional low‐melting‐point alloys (LMPAs) are limited by a narrow compositional space and inherent property trade‐offs. This review presents an entropy‐driven design strategy that overcomes these limitations, ushering in a new class of low‐melting‐point compositionally complex alloys (LMCCAs).

Two-fluid regimes of the resistive and collisionless tearing instability
The two-fluid (electrons and ions) plasma description is used to investigate spontaneous magnetic reconnection(tearing instability) in a sheared force-free magnetic configuration.

Resistive Tearing Instability in Electron-MHD: Application to Neutron Star Crusts [PDF]
We study a resistive tearing instability developing in a system evolving through the combined effect of Hall drift in the Electron-MHD limit and Ohmic dissipation.

Fabrication Routes for Ionic Conducting Fiber Strain Sensors
Ionic conducting fiber strain sensors (ICFSs) offer compliant, textile‐integrable sensing. Thus far, the commercialization of ICFSs has been constrained by fiber fabrication routes. This review provides a fabrication‐centric analysis of ICFSs correlating processing strategies with material properties and scalability.

We investigate the development of tearing-mode instability using the highest-resolution 2D magnetohydrodynamic simulations of reconnecting current sheets performed on a uniform grid, for Lundquist numbers of 10 ^3 ≤ S ≤ 5 × 10 ^5 , reaching up to 65,536 ^

Role of reconnection in inertial kinetic-Alfvén turbulence
In a weakly collisional, low-electron-beta plasma, large-scale Alfvén turbulence transforms into inertial kinetic-Alfvén turbulence at scales smaller than the ion microscale (gyroscale or inertial scale).

Anatomic Arthroscopic Ligamentum Teres Reconstruction for Hip Instability
There has been growing interest in recent years on the functional importance of the ligamentum teres and its role in hip stability. Partial or complete tearing has previously been treated with debridement or radiofrequency ablation with good results ...

Assessment of tear secretion and tear film instability in cases with pterygium and normal subjects
Introduction: Dry eye is a common disorder affecting a significant percentage of the population. Materials and methods: This study is a prospective, hospital-based, case-controlled study conducted between January 2009 and May 2010. Seventy-six pterygium cases and 152 age-and- sex matched controls presenting to the OPD of Manipal Teaching Hospital were ...
