Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Workload Characterization in a Large Distributed File System [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Most prior studies of distributed file systems have focussed on relatively small communities of users, typically university computer science departments. At the Center for Information Technology Integration (CITI) we conjectured that these studies led to

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Provably Secure Videoconferencing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
At the Center for Information Technology Integration, we are experimenting with algorithms and protocols for building secure applications. In our security testbed, we have modified VIC, an off-the-shelf videoconferencing application, to support GSS API, a

InP photonic integrated multi-layer neural networks: Architecture and performance analysis

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2022
We demonstrate the use of a wavelength converter, based on cross-gain modulation in a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), as a nonlinear function co-integrated within an all-optical neuron realized with SOA and wavelength-division multiplexing ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
