Chrysoperla externa (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) as a Potential Biological Control Agent of Raoiella indica (Acari: Tenuipalpidae)

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
First and third instar Chrysoperla externa showed efficient predatory capacity at low R. indica density, but second instar C. externa exhibits a density‐dependent predatory ability. The lacewing C. externa shows promise as a biocontrol agent for R. indica in coconut because it consumed 8362 R. indica females across all its larval instars.

Using acoustic indices to detect interspecific bird interactions and behaviour

open access: yesIbis, EarlyView.
Communication networks and acoustic interactions play a crucial role in shaping animal communities by mediating information exchange between individuals. These interactions contribute to the biophonic component of the soundscape—the acoustic environment of a place—which is increasingly analysed to understand ecosystem structure and functioning. However,

Using citizen science as a research prioritization tool to detect co‐occurrences of the invasive species Harmonia axyridis

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
We studied co‐occurrences and potential novel interactions between the invasive ladybird Harmonia axyridis and local biota (plants, arthropods and fungi) across Argentina using citizen science records. We detected co‐occurrences (mainly Asteracea and Aphididae) and previously unreported interactions (predation, parasitism, interspecific mating and ...

BeppoSAX measurements of the bright gamma-ray burst 010222

open access: yes, 2001
We analyze the BeppoSAX measurements of the prompt and afterglow emission of the gamma-ray burst GRB010222. Among 45 GRBs detected with the Wide Field Cameras on BeppoSAX, the 40-700 keV fluence of (9.3+/-0.3)E-5 erg cm-2 is only surpassed by GRB990123 ...

Morphological and molecular evidence reveals a new species of Characidium from the Ucayali‐Urubamba Piedmont, Peru, and novel molecular clades are proposed within the genus

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract A new species of Characidium is described from the Urubamba River basin, within the Ucayali‐Urubamba Piedmont ecoregion, Peru. The new species can be readily distinguished from all congeners, except Characidium cacah, Characidium chicoi, Characidium helmeri, Characidium mirim, Characidium nana, Characidium nupelia, Characidium sterbai ...

Infrared thermography-calorimetric quantitation of energy expenditure in biomechanically different types of jūdō throwing techniques: a pilot study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
It was the purpose of this pilot study to assess the energy expenditure (EE) of two biome-chanically different jūdō throws, namely, the simple mechanical couple-based uchi-mata vs. the lever-based throw ippon-seoi-nage, using infrared thermal calorimetry

Dynamic Capabilities as Drivers of Circular Business Models: Exploring Direct and Indirect Relationships

open access: yesJournal of Product Innovation Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Academic Summary Despite the urgent need for a circular economy, firms' transition from linear to circular business models (CBMs) remains slow. While previous research suggests that dynamic capabilities are the key drivers of this transition, it assumes a direct link, overlooking that these capabilities can facilitate change but do not ...

Evolutionary legacies structure the geography of seagrass traits across the world's oceans

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Traits modulate species' ability to track shifts in climate, yet the extent to which traits have been shaped by the contemporary environment and/or historical processes remains poorly understood. Here, we fill this gap for the world's seagrasses, habitat‐forming species that provide critical ecosystem services.

Mucoadhesive Drug Delivery Systems for Oral Chronic Inflammatory Mucosal Diseases. The Future is Already Present. A Systematic Review

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Oral lichen planus (OLP) and recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) are considered the most painful oral inflammatory diseases, with high global prevalence and significant impacts on patients' quality of life. In the last decades, researchers have been exploring mucoadhesive drug delivery systems (MDDS) to improve drugs safety and ...
