Creep properties and constitutive model of diabase in deep water conveyance tunnels

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The axial and lateral creep characteristics of diabase were analyzed based on compression creep tests. The nonlinear viscoelastic‐plastic model capable of describing the whole creep process was established based on the fractional derivative and damage theories.

Failure characteristics and the energy criterion of rock with a through‐going joint under true‐triaxial unloading conditions: Insights from the DEM model

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The rock failure mode is significantly influenced by the contributing factors, such as the joint inclination, the initial confining pressure, and the unloading point. We found six typical rock failure modes after a large number of numerical tests. Abstract Excavation unloading damages rock masses, with preferential failure along geological defects in ...

Petrogenesis of Jurassic granitic rocks in South China Block: Implications for events related to subduction of Paleo-Pacific plate

open access: yesOpen Geosciences
Frequent magmatic intrusion and eruption during the early Yanshanian in South China formed a unique and diverse igneous rock assemblage, mainly comprising granite, rhyolite, and some basic rocks.

Geological and geotechnical challenges on the Great Dyke of Zimbabwe and their impact on hardrock pillar design

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The Great Dyke of Zimbabwe is notable for its rich platinum group metal deposits but poses significant geological and geotechnical challenges due to its complex rock types and structural features. Traditional pillar design methods are insufficient for addressing these complexities; the study suggests incorporating advanced techniques such as machine ...

Nonsilting transport characteristics of coal slurry in a deep underground fluidization conveying pipeline under the action of a guide vane swirler

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Aiming at the scientific frontiers of in situ fluidized mining of deep resources, a deep coal fluidized pipeline lifting system based on hydraulic conveying has been proposed. To solve the issue of particle sedimentation of large particles in horizontal connection sections, a solution involving the installation of guide vane‐type swirlers in the ...

Numerical investigation on the influence of mesoscopic deformation on contact area and hydraulic aperture to fracture seepage

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Fluid flow through a single fracture is commonly described by the cubic law. However, deviations from this model are expected because natural fracture surfaces are rough and in contact with each other in discrete regions. In this study, the interactions between fracture closure, contact area, and hydraulic characterization of mesoscopic‐scale rough ...

Constraints for post-orogenic extension of the northern margin of the Qaidam Basin from the Late Silurian–Late Devonian igneous rocks in the Gahai–Nanshan area

open access: yesDizhi lixue xuebao
Objective  The northern margin tectonic zone of the Qaidam Basin underwent a transition from oceanic subduction to continental subduction during the Early Paleozoic, resulting in the formation of the ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic zone known as the ...

Provenance Analysis Based On Petrographic Samples On EXIA-1 Well, Banggai Basin, East Sulawesi, Indonesia

open access: yesJGEET: Journal of Geoscience, Engineering, Environment and Technology
The structure of Exia is composed of Miocene built-up carbonates formed by shear faults. The buildup carbonate feature in the Exia prospect can be seen from the high elevation surrounded by lows with an NNE-SSW and NE-SW trending.
