Screening Routine Clinical Notes for Epilepsy Surgery Candidates Using Large Language Models

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Epilepsy surgery is severely underutilized despite proven efficacy, with substantial under‐referral of eligible patients in routine clinical practice. This study evaluated the potential role of large language models (LLMs) as decision‐support tools for screening unstructured clinical notes to identify epilepsy surgery candidates and ...

First light of the VLT planet finder SPHERE. II. The physical properties and the architecture of the young systems PZ Tel and HD 1160 revisited [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
[Abridged] Context. The young systems PZ Tel and HD 1160, hosting known low-mass companions, were observed during the commissioning of the new planet finder SPHERE with several imaging and spectroscopic modes. Aims.

Clinical Practice Guideline for Evaluation and Management of Peripheral Nervous System Manifestations in Sjögren's Disease

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Sjögren's disease is an autoimmune disorder that can impact multiple organ systems, including the peripheral nervous system (PNS). PNS manifestations, which can exist concurrently, include mononeuropathies, polyneuropathies, and autonomic nervous system neuropathies.

Fighting Uncertainty with Uncertainty: A Baby Step

open access: yes, 2017
We can overcome uncertainty with uncertainty. Using randomness in our choices and in what we control, and hence in the decision making process, could potentially offset the uncertainty inherent in the environment and yield better outcomes. The example we

Dynamic Modulation of the Microenvironment Promotes Functional Maturation of Engineered Tissues

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered tissues lack the dynamic microenvironment of native tissues. A biocompatible, diffusible small molecule to dynamically modulate tissue microenvironments during maturation is used. Timing‐dependent modulation yields distinct outcomes, producing thicker, more native‐like blood vessels, stronger and more mature cardiac tissues, and optimized ...

RUNX-mediated growth arrest and senescence are attenuated by diverse mechanisms in cells expressing RUNX1 fusion oncoproteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
RUNX gene over-expression inhibits growth of primary cells but transforms cells with tumor suppressor defects, consistent with reported associations with tumor progression.

Mechanozyme: An Artificial Enzyme With a Mechanophore Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical destabilization of a G‐quadruplex mechanophore in a DNAzyme markedly boosts its catalytic activity, demonstrating “mechanozymes” as artificial enzymes whose functions are modulated by mechanical stress exerted by ultrasonication. This mechanozyme principle is broadly applicable to control biomolecular activities.

Mapping quantitative trait loci underlying body weight changes that act at different times during high‐fat diet challenge in collaborative cross mice

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Over one billion people worldwide suffer from obesity, and the number is continually rising. Animal models, especially mouse models, are crucial to identifying the genetic components of complex disorders and exploring the potential applications of these genetic findings.
