Temperature control in transport delay systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A control architecture is proposed for temperature control in manufacturing applications based on the internal model principle. It is applied to a problem where the material exit temperature is to be controlled by changing the transportation speed to ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Low temperatures or high isolation delay increases the average COVID-19 infections in India : A Mathematical modeling approach

open access: yesComputational and Mathematical Biophysics, 2021
The dynamics of COVID-19 in India are captured using a set of delay differential equations by dividing a population into five compartments. The Positivity and Boundedness of the system is shown.

Geometric phase as a determinant of a qubit--environment coupling

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate the qubit geometric phase and its properties in dependence on the mechanism for decoherence of a qubit weakly coupled to its environment.

On capabilities and limitations of current fast neutron-flux monitoring instrumentation for the DEMO LFR ALFRED [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Among Gen IV projects for future nuclear power plants, Lead cooled Fast Reactors (LFR) seem to be a very interesting solution due to its benefits in terms of fuel cycle, coolant-safety and waste management.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Efficacy of a novel non-contact corneal esthesiometer in assessing the neurotrophic status of the cornea in T1DM patients with bacterial keratitis

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2020
Purpose: To develop a novel non-contact corneal esthesiometer and to determine the efficacy of this meter in assessing the neurotrophic status of the cornea in type I diabetic mellitus (T1DM) patients with bacterial keratitis. Material and Methods: We

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Technology Pathways and Economic Analysis for Transforming High Temperature to Low Temperature District Heating Systems

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
There are 1454 district heating systems in Germany. Most of them are fossil based and with high temperature levels, which is neither efficient nor sustainable and needs to be changed for reaching the 2050 climate goals.

Identification and optimal selection of temperature-sensitive measuring points of thermal error compensation on a heavy-duty machine tool [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015
Thermal error compensation is considered as an effective and economic method to improve the machining accuracy for a machine tool. The performance of thermal error prediction mainly depends on the accuracy and robustness of predictive model and the input temperature variables.
