Gold nanoparticles confined in the interconnected carbon foams with high temperature stability
Gold nanoparticle-carbon foam composites with highly-dispersed gold nanoparticles confined in the cavities were prepared. The gold nanoparticles are effectively separated from each other by permeable carbon shells, which show high temperature stability ...

Direct measurement of transcription rates reveals multiple mechanisms for configuration of the Arabidopsis ambient temperature response [PDF]
Sensing and responding to ambient temperature is important for controlling growth and development of many organisms, in part by regulating mRNA levels.

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Stability of temperatures during hyperthermia treatments
Attempts to develop a dosimetry for hyperthermia treatments have been limited by problems such as the inability of hyperthermia delivery systems to produce desired temperature distributions and the complexity of modelling complete temperature distributions.

Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

PEGylation of rhIL-1RA increased its solution stability at room temperature
Recombinant human interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (rhIL-1RA) is an important cytokine in the treatment of inflammatory diseases. However, it is instable in aqueous solution and prone to degrade without the addition of any excipient.

DNA stability at temperatures typical for hyperthermophiles
We have studied the fate of covalently-closed circular DNA in the temperature range from 95 to 107 degrees C. Supercoiled plasmid was not denatured up to the highest temperature tested. However, it was progressively transformed into open DNA by cleavage and then denatured. Thermodegradation was not dependent on the DNA supercoiling density.

CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...
