Unidirectional Tape‐Based Composites from Hemp and Pineapple Leaf Fiber: Mechanical Performance in Conventional and Bio‐Based Matrices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study investigates novel semi‐finished products made of unidirectionally arranged hemp or pineapple leaf fiber‐reinforced composites produced from different matrices. The materials are analyzed in terms of their mechanical and interfacial properties and void content.

Influence of heat treatment on mechanical properties of 300M steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
Tests show that 300M steel should be austenitized at temperatures above 1,800 deg. F to yield best combintion of strength and thickness. Tempering should be performed at temperatures between 400 and 600 deg.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Numerical simulations on the 4d Heisenberg spin glass

open access: yes, 1994
We study the 4d Heisenberg spin glass model with Gaussian nearest-neighbor interactions. We use finite size scaling to analyze the data. We find a behavior consistent with a finite temperature spin glass transition.

Tribological Performance of 60NiTi Alloy Under Varying Contact Conditions and Elevated Temperatures in Linear Reciprocating Sliding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the tribological response of 60NiTi alloy under dry, water‐lubricated and high‐temperature conditions. The alloy exhibits decreasing wear volume and friction with increasing temperature due to the formation of protective oxide layers. The work clarifies dominant wear mechanisms and demonstrates the suitability of 60NiTi for high‐

Permeability, Brine Content and Temperature of Temperate Ice [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 1971
AbstractA temperate glacier is defined as a glacier containing liquid inclusions in which the concentration of salts is not too high. Nevertheless these salts suffice to produce a depression in temperature comparable with that due 10 the pressure, and much greater than that due to interfacial energies.

Laser Metal Powder Deposition of Titanium Microalloyed HSLA Steel FeC0.12Si0.25Mn1.3

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the additive manufacturing of titanium‐doped high‐strength low‐alloy (HSLA) steel via laser metal deposition. It reveals distinct process‐structure relationships for elemental powder blends compared to prealloyed feedstocks.

Fissure Characterization of Rice Kernels Using Video Microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Fissures are fractures of a rice kernel that can be created during the drying and tempering process. They cause tremendous postharvest losses in milling yield.

Random Pinning Glass Model

open access: yes, 2012
Glass transition where viscosity of liquids increases dramatically upon decrease of temperature without any major change in structural properties, remains one of the most challenging problems in condensed matter physics (Cavagna, 2009; Berthier and ...
