Abstract The influence of intercritical tempering temperature on impact toughness of quenched and tempered 0.05C-5.42Mn medium-Mn steel was studied and compared with traditional tempering. The experimental steel had high hardenability because of high Mn-content.

Effect of tempering temperature and microstructure on the corrosion behavior of a tempered steel
Protection of Metals and Physical Chemistry of Surfaces, 2013In this study, a tempered martensitic matrix was obtained in a low carbon steel, by applying austenization, quenching and tempering heat treatments. After austenization at 1000°C for 30 minutes, steel samples were quenched in water and then tempered at 200, 540 and 600°C for 30 minutes.

Temperature-mediated coexistence in temperate forest ant communities
Insectes Sociaux, 2009Patterns of ant species diversity are well documented and yet the mechanisms promoting species coexistence among communities are often elusive. Two emerging hypotheses that account for coexistence in ant communities are the discovery-dominance tradeoff and the dominance-thermal tolerance tradeoff.

Physiological response of temperate microphytobenthos to freezing temperatures
Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 2013Microphytobenthos (MPB) contributes up to half the primary production of estuaries. These microorganisms are sensitive to changes in sediment temperatures, particularly the extreme temperatures during exposure periods. This study investigates the physiological responses of MPB to freezing temperatures at two locations near Hobart, Tasmania during ...

Diamond coating of titanium alloys at tempering temperature
Materials Letters, 1996Abstract Polycrystalline diamond films have been deposited on pure titanium and Ti-6Al-4V in a microwave plasma reactor from CH 4 -H 2 and CO-H 2 gas mixtures, at a temperature in the range 600–900 °C. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy showed that 1–10 μm diamond layers could be produced at 600 °C with a fairly ...

Temperature Responses and Yield in Temperate Crops
1979Assuming that mineral nutrients and water supply are not limiting, crop yield depends upon: (1) the photosynthetic rate, (2) the amount of solar radiation intercepted and utilized in photosynthesis over the growing period, and (3) the proportion of total dry matter constituting the harvested part of the plant (harvest index).

Low-temperature tempering kinetics of hardened steel 38KhN3MFA
Russian Physics Journal, 1993Diffraction electron microscopy was used in a study of the decay kinetics of the α-iron solid solution and the growth kinetics of cementite particles in steel 38KhN3MFA after tempering at 200–550°C. Growth equations are written for cementite particles formed in lamellar high-temperature martensite crystals.

Temperature constrains locomotion and muscle function in two temperate labrids
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 2019Winter quiescence in fishes is not uncommon, however understanding the mechanisms that cause dormancy are poorly understood. This study highlights the physiological stress temperature places on locomotor musculature and its consequences on whole organism locomotion. Cunner and tautog experience temperatures ranging from 0 to 25 °C and enter dormancy at

Nutrient and Temperature Limitation of Bacterioplankton Growth in Temperate Lakes
Microbial Ecology, 2005Limitation of bacterioplankton production by nutrients and temperature was investigated in eight temperate lakes in summer. Six of the lakes were resampled in autumn. The lakes differ in nutrient content, water color, and concentration of dissolved organic carbon. Nutrients (phosphorus, nitrogen, and organic carbon) were added alone and in all possible
