Influence of intercritical tempering temperature on impact toughness of a quenched and tempered medium-Mn steel: Intercritical tempering versus traditional tempering

Materials Science & Engineering A: Structural Materials: Properties, Microstructure and Processing, 2018
Abstract The influence of intercritical tempering temperature on impact toughness of quenched and tempered 0.05C-5.42Mn medium-Mn steel was studied and compared with traditional tempering. The experimental steel had high hardenability because of high Mn-content.

Effect of Tempering Temperature on Abrasinite-500 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This thesis investigates the effect of various tempering temperature on Abrasinite 500 with a bainitic morphology. This was achieved by performing heat treatment, hardness test, Charpy impact test and analysis the microstructure of the steel. While the tempering temperatures used in this thesis belonged to the lower range of tempering temperatures, it ...

Temper, Temperature, and Temptation

Psychological Science, 2011
In this study, we analyzed data from 57,293 Major League Baseball games to test whether high temperatures interact with provocation to increase the likelihood that batters will be hit by a pitch. Controlling for a number of other variables, we conducted analyses showing that the probability of a pitcher hitting a batter increases sharply at high ...

Effect of tempering temperature and microstructure on the corrosion behavior of a tempered steel

Protection of Metals and Physical Chemistry of Surfaces, 2013
In this study, a tempered martensitic matrix was obtained in a low carbon steel, by applying austenization, quenching and tempering heat treatments. After austenization at 1000°C for 30 minutes, steel samples were quenched in water and then tempered at 200, 540 and 600°C for 30 minutes.

Selection of temperature intervals for parallel-tempering simulations

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2005
A heuristic is developed specifying that temperatures in replica-exchange simulations should be spaced such that about 20% of the phase-swap attempts are accepted. The result is found to be independent of the heat capacity, suggesting that it may be applied generally despite being based on an assumption of (piecewise-) constant heat capacity.

Evolution of microstructures and mechanical properties with tempering temperature of a pearlitic quenched and tempered steel

Journal of Iron and Steel Research International, 2021
Instead of conventional quenching and tempering, fast austenitization from an initial microstructure of lamellar pearlite followed by quenching and tempering was carried out, leading to the formation of inhomogeneous microstructure. It comprised different morphologies of lath martensite and retained austenite (RA).

Temperate Drosophila preserve cardiac function at low temperature

Journal of Insect Physiology, 2015
Most insects are chill susceptible and will enter a coma if exposed to sufficiently low temperature. This chill coma has been associated with a failure of the neuromuscular system. Insect heart rate (HR) is determined by intrinsic regulation (muscle pacemaker) with extrinsic (nervous and humoral) input. By examining the continually active heart of five

Nutrient and Temperature Limitation of Bacterioplankton Growth in Temperate Lakes

Microbial Ecology, 2005
Limitation of bacterioplankton production by nutrients and temperature was investigated in eight temperate lakes in summer. Six of the lakes were resampled in autumn. The lakes differ in nutrient content, water color, and concentration of dissolved organic carbon. Nutrients (phosphorus, nitrogen, and organic carbon) were added alone and in all possible

Temperature Responses and Yield in Temperate Crops

1979
Assuming that mineral nutrients and water supply are not limiting, crop yield depends upon: (1) the photosynthetic rate, (2) the amount of solar radiation intercepted and utilized in photosynthesis over the growing period, and (3) the proportion of total dry matter constituting the harvested part of the plant (harvest index).
