Estimation of Tendon Force Distribution in Prestressed Concrete Girders Using Smart Strand

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
The recently developed smart strand offers the possibility of measuring the prestress force of the tendon from jacking and all along its service life. In the present study, a method estimating the force distribution in all the tendons of a prestressed ...

Design Paradigms Based on Spring Agonists for Underactuated Robot Hands: Concepts and Application [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In this paper, we focus on a rarely used paradigm in the design of underactuated robot hands: the use of springs as agonists and tendons as antagonists. We formalize this approach in a design matrix also considering its interplay with the underactuation method used (one tendon for multiple joints vs. multiple tendons on one motor shaft).

LIPUS Promotes Calcium Oscillation and Enhances Calcium Dependent Autophagy of Chondrocytes to Alleviate Osteoarthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A non‐invasive and safe physical therapy, low‐intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) can alleviate osteoarthritis. This study dynamically “visualizes” the invisible mechanical stimuli of LIPUS on living chondrocytes by fluorescence imaging technology in the form of calcium oscillations, confirming LIPUS maintains cartilage homeostasis by promoting ...

Single‐Cell Analysis Clarifies Pathological Heterogeneity in Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumor and Identifies Biomarkers for Predicting Disease Recurrence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
MP3 tumor cells, a specific subpopulation of tumor cells in D‐TGCT, regulated the differentiation of CD34+ Fbs into MMP3+ Fbs and APOE+ Fbs through COL6A3 − (ITGAV + ITGB8) interaction. APOE+ Fbs activated IL‐1B+CCL20+ Mφs through the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis. IL‐1B+CCL20+ Mφs and MMP3+ Fbs participated in the local invasion of D‐TGCT.

Effect of 6 Weeks of Aerobic Training on TGF-Β1, Myostatin and Matrix Metalloproteinase 9 Genes Expression in the Tendon of Fast- and Slow-Twitch Muscles of Male Wistar Rats

open access: yesMajallah-i dānishgāh-i ̒ulūm-i pizishkī-i Arāk, 2020
Background and Aim: Tendon, like the skeletal muscle, exhibits mechanical and morphological adaptations resulted from exercise training; however, little is known about the basic cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate these responses.

The differential effects of leukocyte-containing and pure platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on tendon stem/progenitor cells - implications of PRP application for the clinical treatment of tendon injuries

open access: yesStem cell research & therapeutics, 2015
IntroductionPlatelet-rich plasma (PRP) is widely used to treat tendon injuries in clinics. These PRP preparations often contain white blood cells or leukocytes, and the precise cellular effects of leukocyte-rich PRP (L-PRP) on tendons are not well ...

Electroactive Electrospun Nanofibrous Scaffolds: Innovative Approaches for Improved Skin Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review explores the potential of electroactive electrospun nanofibrous (EEN) scaffolds for enhanced skin wound healing. It discusses how a variety of electroactive materials can be prepared into EEN scaffolds via electrospinning technology, and their applications in various wound types. The review provides insights into the future perspectives for

Universal-jointed Tendon-driven Continuum Robot: Design, Kinematic Modeling, and Locomotion in Narrow Tubes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Tendon-driven Continuum Robots (TDCRs) are promising candidates for applications in confined spaces due to their unique shape, compliance, and miniaturization capability. Non-parallel tendon routing for TDCRs have shown definite advantages including segments with higher degrees of freedom, larger workspace and higher dexterity. However, most works have

Autonomous Control of a Tendon-driven Robotic Limb with Elastic Elements Reveals that Added Elasticity can Enhance Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Passive elastic elements can contribute to stability, energetic efficiency, and impact absorption in both biological and robotic systems. They also add dynamical complexity which makes them more challenging to model and control. The impact of this added complexity to autonomous learning has not been thoroughly explored.
