Soil drought imposes moderate, temporary costs on a strictly fossorial amphisbaenian reptile. However, these animals seem to cope with, at least, moderately short droughts thanks to their peculiar adaptations to living in an underground environment. ABSTRACT The physiological traits of animals can be strongly influenced by climatic fluctuations, and ...

Sub-chronic toxicity determination of powdered Tenebrio molitor larvae as a novel food source
Tenebrio molitor larvae are the first insect species to be given a favorable assessment by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) as a novel food source, enabling consumption of whole insect larvae or larvae that have been powdered and processed into ...

In this study, we found moderate to strong repeatabilities in behavioural variables measuring the personality traits: activity, aggressiveness and exploration. Similarly, the probability of acting as a leader during tandem running in an emigration event was moderately (R = 0.469) repeatable.

Parasitoid wasps deploy maternal and embryonic factors to reprogramme host physiology. Venom, calyx fluid, polydnaviruses, teratocytes and larval secretions act in a coordinated, compartmentalised manner. Host‐regulation factors are promising sources of insecticidal, antimicrobial and bioinspired translational molecules.

Biodegradation of Polystyrene by Dark (Tenebrio obscurus) and Yellow (Tenebrio molitor) Mealworms (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) [PDF]
Yellow mealworms (larvae of Tenebrio molitor, Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) have been proven to be capable of biodegrading polystyrene (PS) products. Using four geographic sources, we found that dark mealworms (larvae of Tenebrio obscurus) ate PS as well ...

Tenebrio molitor Larvae Feeding Strategy to Degrade Polypropylene Components from Disposable Masks
The surge in mask consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic led to the widespread use of disposable polypropylene masks for protection. However, the accumulation of used masks poses environmental challenges due to the slow degradation of polypropylene ...
