Unfolding communities in large complex networks: Combining defensive and offensive label propagation for core extraction

open access: yes, 2011
Label propagation has proven to be a fast method for detecting communities in large complex networks. Recent developments have also improved the accuracy of the approach, however, a general algorithm is still an open issue.

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Inhibition of CDK9 enhances AML cell death induced by combined venetoclax and azacitidine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The CDK9 inhibitor AZD4573 downregulates c‐MYC and MCL‐1 to induce death of cytarabine (AraC)‐resistant AML cells. This enhances VEN + AZA‐induced cell death significantly more than any combination of two of the three drugs in AraC‐resistant AML cells.

Effectiveness of TENS and Acetaminophen for Pain Control During Orthodontic Treatment: A Comparative Study

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Background: Orthodontic treatment often induces pain, especially post appliance placement. This study compares transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and acetaminophen for orthodontic pain management. Materials and Methods: A randomized trial

Gravitational Radiation from Intermediate-Mass Black Holes

open access: yes, 2002
Recent X-ray observations of galaxies with ROSAT, ASCA, and Chandra have revealed numerous bright off-center point sources which, if isotropic emitters, are likely to be intermediate-mass black holes, with hundreds to thousands of solar masses.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Efficacy of Parasacral Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation in Children with Refractory Detrusor Overactivity

open access: yesJournal of Urological Surgery
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of parasacral transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (p-TENS) in children with detrusor overactivity (DO) who were subjected to standard medical treatment, urotherapy, and/or biofeedback ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Refractive Distortions of Two-Particle Correlations from Classical Trajectory Calculations

open access: yes, 2005
Calculations of two-particle correlations usually assume particles interact only pair-wise after their final collisions with third bodies. By considering classical trajectories, we show that interactions with the mean field can alter the spatial ...
