Terahertz generation from graphite

open access: yesOptics Express, 2009
Generation of subpicosecond terahertz pulses is observed when graphite surfaces are illuminated with femtosecond near-infrared laser pulses. The nonlinear optical generation of THz pulses from graphite is unexpected since, in principle, the material possesses a centre of inversion symmetry.

Spectrally resolved wave-mixing between near- and far-infrared pulses in gas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate the nonlinear wave-mixing in gases between intense, short optical pulses and long-wavelength fields (mid infrared and terahertz). We show numerically that the beating between the sum- and difference-frequency generation components can be ...

Application of terahertz spectroscopy to the characterization of biological samples using birefringence silicon grating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present a device and method for performing vector transmission spectroscopy on biological specimens at terahertz (THz) frequencies. The device consists of artificial dielectric birefringence obtained from silicon microfluidic grating structures. The

Wave-mixing analysis for THz-signals generation in dc-biased semiconductor optical devices at room temperature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Wave-mixing at 370-GHz in a SOA and FP semiconductor laser is investigated by using a FROG-system. A comparison of the optical time-fluctuations measured at their output stresses the importance of a resonant cavity in THz-signals generation from ...

Terahertz generation in InAs epitaxial films

open access: yesTechnical Physics Letters, 2022
We present the results of terahertz generation studies under excitation via femtosecond lasers pulses epitaxial films of InAs, which were synthesized on semi-insulating and highly doped GaAs substrates. It is shown that a terahertz emitter based on epitaxial InAs film grown on a heavily doped GaAs n-type substrate, has the same terahertz ...

Dynamic modeling of Terahertz Quantum cascade lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, the influence of the simplifications made in the four-equation-based set of rate equations describing the dynamic behavior of a Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) is studied.

Actively controlled enhancement cavity for terahertz generation

open access: yes, 2022
S.387We report on the efficient Cherenkov-type terahertz (THz) generation using lithium niobate crystals and a high repetition rate femtosecond laser. An actively length controlled synchronously pumped ring resonator acts as an enhancement cavity for the
