Hydrolysis of Dimethyl Terephthalate for the Production of Terephthalic Acid
Hydrolysis of dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) to produce terephthalic acid (TPA) was studied using a batch reactor. Zink acetate was used as a catalyst to promote the reaction rate. We found that the reaction consists of two reactions: from DMT to mono methyl terephthalate (MMT) and then MMT to TPA.

I. On terephthalic acid and its derivatives [PDF]
Abstract Whilst pursuing our investigation of Burmese naphtha, an abstract of which we have already communicated to the Society, we noticed, among the products of the action of nitric acid on certain liquid hydrocarbons contained in Rangoon tar, an acid of peculiar properties.
