What Is the Pterygomandibular Raphe? A Confluence of Fasciae Rather Than a Discrete Structure

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The pterygomandibular raphe (PMR) has traditionally been described as a fibrous or tendinous band connecting the bucinator (BM) and superior pharyngeal constrictor (SPCM) muscles. However, recent evidence has questioned its existence. This study aimed to reevaluate the anatomy of the pterygomandibular region by preserving fascial continuity ...

The Representation of White Matter in the Central Nervous System

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroanatomy, 2018
The white matter of the central nervous system (CNS) is difficult to represent in anatomy because it is located predominantly “between” other anatomical entities. In a classic presentation, like a cross section of a brain segment, white matter is present

The Relationship Between Postoperative Variation of Adjacent Segment Three‐Dimensional Kinematics and Postoperative PI‐LL in Patients With Degenerative Lumbar Scoliosis After Short Segment Fixation

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 12, Page 3342-3353, December 2025.
In summary, we collected the postoperative variation of motion pattern at the adjacent segment in patients with DLS over short‐term follow‐up. As a result, the reduction of coupled motion in adjacent segments indicates an improved balance of the spine compared to before the surgery.

Ultrasound visualization and blood flow velocity measurements of the adrenal arteries in the fetus

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 104, Issue 1, Page 102-108, January 2025.
We have developed an examination technique for visualizing and measuring blood flow velocities in the fetal adrenal arteries. The inferior adrenal arteries had the highest success rate. This assessment could improve the diagnosis and surveillance of growth‐restricted fetuses. Abstract Introduction Detection and surveillance of fetal growth restriction (

What's in a name? Is an anatomical term only a name?

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, Volume 37, Issue 4, Page 390-396, May 2024.
Abstract The purpose of a standard terminology is to facilitate communication. Thus, changing the name of an anatomical structure or the meaning of an anatomical term undermines that aspiration and cuts connections with anatomy's long history. Two types of anatomical terms are the most vulnerable to logical arguments for revision—ones that are ...
