Insights on the nutritional ecology of a nocturnal pollinating insect

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 33, Issue 3, Page 1123-1141, June 2026.
Nutritional ecology examines the environmental effects on nutritional needs, food intake and foraging behaviors, and the use of nutrients ingested by animals. Among insects, Lepidoptera are often considered opportunistic foragers that visit a wide variety of available flowers, although with some preferences.

Predation, Climate and Species Traits Interact to Shape Global Patterns of Avian Nest Architecture

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 35, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Bird nest structures are critical for reproductive success and vary widely across species. However, the ecological and evolutionary drivers behind enclosed nests (domes and cavities) remain unclear, with previous studies yielding conflicting results.

Decay, insect, and termite resistance of wood modified with epoxidized vegetable oils

open access: yesHolzforschung, 2020
Abstract Samples of Scots pine sapwood were treated with epoxidized linseed and soybean oils to improve decay, insect and termite resistance of wood. Non-epoxidized (raw) linseed and soybean oils were included as reference treatment in the study.

Transcriptomic and DNA Methylation Profiles of Alternative Aphid Morphs and Genotypes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Graph showing the correlation between differentially expressed genes and differentially methylated genes. There is no correlation between gene expression and DNA methylation level in pea aphid polyphenism. ABSTRACT Pea aphids can develop alternative morphs when exposed to stressful conditions, showing differences between genotypes in their stress ...

Using deep learning to assess the toxicological effects of sublethal exposure of a novel green pesticide in a stored‐product beetle

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 5, Page 4319-4331, May 2026.
This study employs an AI‐driven multidisciplinary approach to increase our understanding of the toxicological effects of sublethal concentrations of carlina oxide on Prostephanus truncatus. Sublethal exposure to the carlina oxide induced changes in motor patterns and thigmotaxis, highlighting its potential role in integrated pest management strategies.

Study of Teakwood Quality from Community Forests in Gunungkidul. VII. Natural Subterranean Termite Resistance

open access: yesJurnal Ilmu Kehutanan, 2018
Teak wood has been used for various uses because of its excellent natural durability as well as beautiful grain and colour of its heartwood. However, variability in natural durability exists between trees of different geographical zones.

Conned by the enemy: the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium anisopliae lures and kills Drosophila suzukii

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 5, Page 4595-4606, May 2026.
Highly pathogenic isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae attracted Drosophila suzukii. Identifying the responsible compounds for this attraction could help the development of these isolates for pest monitoring and overall pest management. Abstract BACKGROUND Drosophila suzukii, commonly known as spotted wing drosophila (SWD), is a highly invasive and ...

Evaluating Soil Carbon Models for Sub‐Saharan Africa: Revealing Knowledge Gaps in Subtropical and Tropical Soil Biogeochemistry

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Process‐based soil carbon (C) models are increasingly used to project regional and global C cycle responses to climate change. However, the development and evaluation of these models has largely focused on temperate regions of North America and Europe.
