The termitinae (Isoptera) of temperate Australia
Australian Journal of Zoology Supplementary Series, 1971The subfamily Termitinae is represented in temperate Australia by 12 species, 10 of which are known by all castes and two by imagos only. The 12 species are assigned to five genera, two of which, Hesperotermes and Ekphysotermes, are new and proposed to accommodate a number of species previously assigned to the genus Termes.

Revision of the Termitinae with snapping soldiers (Isoptera: Termitidae) from New Guinea
Zootaxa, 2008Up to now, three described species of Termitinae with snapping soldier mandibles (the Termes–Capritermes group) were known from New Guinea: Termes odontomachus (Desneux), Macrognathotermes errator Miller and Pericapritermes schultzei (Holmgren).

This is a taxonomic revision of the Neotropical genus Orthognathotermes Holmgren, 1910 (Termitidae, Termitinae), previously with nine species: O. aduncus, O. brevipilosus, O. gibberorum, O. heberi, O. humilis, O. insignis, O. macrocephalus, O. orthognathus and O. wheeleri. We redescribe these species and describe six new species: O. longilamina sp. nov.

—Amylase, sucrase and cellulase were detected in the alimentary canals of workers and soldiers of Amitermes evuncifer Silvestri, but only sucrase and cellulase were found in the alimentary canal of the alates. Enzyme activities varied in different parts of the alimentary canal.

A revision of the Termes-Capritermes branch of the Termitinae in Australia (Isoptera : Termitidae)
Invertebrate Taxonomy, 1990The Australian genera belonging to the Termes-Capritermes branch of the Termitinae are revised. Termes fatalis Linnaeus, the type species of Termes Linnaeus, is redescribed and a neotype soldier designated. Eight new genera and 27 new species are described, 18 species presently assigned to the genus Termes are transferred to other genera ...

Amitermes meridionalis and Amitermes laurensis construct meridional termite mounds that are endemic to northern Australia. The first comprehensive survey of the orientation of these mounds, involving 68 mound sites across northern Australia, is described. The mean mound orientations of most coastal A.

Pairing termite workers from cultures obtained from same colony of Microcerotermes fuscotibialis Sjostedt did not result in agonistic behavior or mortality of the paired individuals. Termite pairings from different colonies located at different distances resulted in serious encounters and aggressive behavior leading to significant mortality of the ...
