Nejire/dCBP-mediated control of H3 acetylation and transcriptional regulation by testis-specific Plus3 domain proteins during Drosophila spermatogenesis [PDF]
Spermatogenesis describes the development from germ line stem cells to highly specialized sperm. Drosophila melanogaster spermatogenesis is a good model system for chromatin remodelling processes as many of these processes are similar in mammals and in ...

In this review, we discuss varicocele testis, which is found in 15% of men from the general population, but more frequently in infertile populations. It can cause physical symptoms or impaired fertility. Varicocele severity is graded 1-3 by clinical examination, and increasing grade is associated with poorer semen quality.

Role of androgen and gonadotrophins in the development and function of the Sertoli cells and Leydig cells: data from mutant and genetically modified mice [PDF]
Development and maintenance of the male phenotype and establishment of fertility are all dependent upon the activity of the Sertoli cells and Leydig cells of the testis.

Effect of competitive cues on reproductive morphology and behavioral plasticity in male fruitflies [PDF]
Phenotypic plasticity will be favored whenever there are significant fitness benefits of responding to environmental variation. The extent and nature of the plasticity that evolves depends on the rate of environmental fluctuations and the capacity to ...

Sperm competition and sperm midpiece size: no consistent pattern in passerine birds [PDF]
Sperm competition is thought to be a major force driving the evolution of sperm shape and function. However, previous studies investigating the relationship between the risk of sperm competition and sperm morphometry revealed inconclusive results and ...

Abstract A series of 56 proved cases of torsion of the testis is reviewed. The condition is rare, only 2 patients per year being admitted to a large general hospital of 800 beds. The aim of this study was to assess the fate of testes in relation to the duration of symptoms: if less than 12 hours the outlook is good, between 12 and 24 ...

Testes asymmetry, condition and sexual selection in birds: an experimental test [PDF]
The functional significance of the marked directional asymmetry in testes size observed in many bird species is obscure. Møller suggested that (i) the smaller of the two testes serves a compensatory role and increases in size (and hence reduces ...
