MetS‐Z: A gender‐ and age‐specific scoring system for predicting type 2 diabetes

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
The MetS‐Z score, designed to account for gender‐ and age‐specific variations, outperformed traditional indices in distinguishing diabetic from non‐diabetic individuals, with AUCs of 0.76 in men and 0.80 in women. Heavily weighted on waist circumference and fasting glucose, it demonstrates strong potential for personalized diabetes prediction. ABSTRACT

The gut‐microbiota‐brain axis: Focus on gut steroids

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, EarlyView.
Abstract There are over 1000 varieties of steroids that have been reported in nature, including the endogenous sex steroid hormones (i.e., progesterone, testosterone, and 17β‐estradiol) and corticosteroids which are mainly synthesized by gonads and adrenals, respectively.

From silence to song: Testosterone triggers extensive transcriptional changes in the female canary HVC

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, EarlyView.
Abstract Seasonal song production in canaries is influenced by gonadal hormones, but the molecular mechanisms underlying testosterone‐induced song development in adult female canaries, which rarely sing naturally, remain poorly understood. We explored testosterone‐induced song development in adult female canaries by comparing gene regulatory networks ...

Objective sleep monitoring at home in older adults: A scoping review

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
Summary Inadequate sleep in older adults is linked to health issues such as frailty, cognitive impairment and cardiovascular disorders. Maintaining regular sleep patterns is important for healthy aging, making effective sleep monitoring essential.

Neurogenomic landscape associated with status‐dependent cooperative behaviour

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract The neurogenomic mechanisms mediating male–male reproductive cooperative behaviours remain unknown. We leveraged extensive transcriptomic and behavioural data on a neotropical bird species (Pipra filicauda) that performs cooperative courtship displays to understand these mechanisms.
