The European Union summary report on antimicrobial resistance in zoonotic and indicator bacteria from humans, animals and food in 2022–2023

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract This report presents the main findings of the 2022–2023 harmonised antimicrobial resistance (AMR) monitoring in Salmonella spp., Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli from humans and food‐producing animals (broilers, laying hens and fattening turkeys, fattening pigs and cattle under 1 year of age) and derived meat.

Role of Sodium‐Dependent Vitamin C Transporter‐2 and Ascorbate in Regulating the Hypoxic Pathway in Cultured Glioblastoma Cells

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Biochemistry, Volume 126, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT The most common and aggressive brain cancer, glioblastoma, is characterized by hypoxia and poor survival. The pro‐tumour transcription factor, hypoxia‐inducible factor (HIF), is regulated via HIF‐hydroxylases that require ascorbate as cofactor. Decreased HIF‐hydroxylase activity triggers the hypoxic pathway driving cancer progression.

Comparative resistomics analysis of multidrug‐resistant Chryseobacteria

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 16, Issue 3, June 2024.
Chryseobacteria are resistant to β‐lactam, aminoglycoside, and many other antimicrobials. Comparative resistomics analysis based on 215 Chryseobacteria genomes revealed that >78% of antibiotic resistance genes are putatively intrinsic. However, the discovery of the resistance cluster tetX‐catB11‐IS91‐XerD and its enrichment in clinic isolates suggest ...

Rheumatoid arthritis: pathogenesis and therapeutic advances

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 5, Issue 3, March 2024.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory and autoimmune disease with multisystem involvement, including genetic, epigenetic, metabolic, and immune factors. This review focuses on the importance of recently identified epigenetic and metabolic risk factors for immune dysfunction and pathogenic tissue‐remodeling programs in RA development ...

Daily occupational exposure in swine farm alters human skin microbiota and antibiotic resistome

open access: yesiMeta, Volume 3, Issue 1, February 2024.
We show that occupational exposure in a livestock environment dynamically reshaped the skin microbiome and resistome. This remodeling effect can take place within hours and the acquired pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) have the potential to expand to the general population using farm workers as an ARG vector.
