Domestic and International Health Expenditure and Health and Healthcare Use: Evidence From Mozambique

open access: yesHealth Economics, Volume 35, Issue 7, Page 1088-1103, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Evidence on the relationship between public health expenditure and health is mixed and particularly scarce for low‐income countries. Existing studies overlook the subnational distribution of expenditure and rarely distinguish between sources and governance over funding.

“No Vax, No Visit”: Psychosocial Impacts of Vaccination‐Based Visitation Boundaries Among Australian Parents of Newborns

open access: yesHealth Promotion Journal of Australia, Volume 37, Issue 3, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Issue Addressed No Vax, No Visit (NVNV) is a parent‐led socially negotiated health protection practice aimed at reducing newborns' risk of exposure to pertussis by encouraging visitors to be up to date with tetanus–diphtheria–pertussis (Tdap/dTpa) vaccination prior to contact.

In rats, neurodevelopmental disorders induced by maternal hypoxia are associated with attenuated excitatory neurotransmission in the cingulate cortex

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 13, Page 3723-3742, July 2026.
Background and Purpose Maternal hypoxia is a recognised risk factor for neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring. Although rodent models of hypoxia have been reported, the detailed pathogenesis of maternal hypoxia‐induced neurodevelopmental disorders remains unclear.

Immunogenicity of a Multi‐Epitope Influenza Composite Peptide Vaccine Targeting Human, Swine, and Avian Viruses: Advancing Pandemic Preparedness

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 20, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background The emergence of novel reassortant influenza A virus strains and zoonotic transmission to the human population is a critical factor in the development of a global pandemic, as exemplified by the 2009 swine flu pandemic and the ongoing threat of an H5N1 avian flu pandemic.

Enhanced Human Antigen‐Specific B Cell Responses Using In Vitro 3D Tonsil Cultures Containing Stromal Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 22, 12 June 2026.
We developed a fully human 3D tonsil cell culture system incorporating supportive stromal cells that better sustains and activates immune cells than conventional methods. The model generates stronger, more targeted antibody responses to viral antigens and vaccines, providing a physiologically relevant and entirely human platform for studying immune ...

A Central Somatic Transmission Mediates Proprioceptive Facilitation of Muscle Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 34, 19 June 2026.
Zhang et al. uncover a novel central mechanism for persistent muscle pain, in which TRPA1 sensitization in MeV proprioceptive neurons enhances somatic secretion. This, in turn, disinhibits descending pain control from neighboring noradrenergic locus coeruleus neurons via local GABAergic circuits, thereby promoting inflammatory muscle pain.

Reduction in hippocampal cholinergic neurostimulating peptide enhances memory impairment in AppNL‐G‐F KI mice

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Whether cholinergic activity in the septohippocampal network affects cognitive dysfunction via hippocampal cholinergic neurostimulating peptide (HCNP) in Alzheimer's pathogenesis remains unclear. METHODS An Alzheimer's pathogenesis by mutation in amyloid‐beta precursor protein gene (AppNL‐G‐F) knock‐in (KI) and HCNP precursor ...

Single‐Stage Modified Postauricular Flap Reconstruction for a Traumatic Helical Rim Defect Following a Human Bite: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Traumatic defects of the helical rim caused by human bites present significant reconstructive challenges because of tissue loss, infection risk, and the need to preserve auricular contour and symmetry. We report a 27‐year‐old man who presented with a middle‐third defect of the left helical rim following necrosis of an initially sutured avulsed
