Tethers for Small Satellite Applications
1995This paper begins with a sketch of the history of space tether concepts and then describes the four tether orbital flight tests flown in 1992-94 (TSS-1, SEDS-1, PMG, and SEDS-2). It reviews currently funded flight experiments and studies aimed at near-term flights. Next it provides a brief tutorial on some key aspects of space tether concepts.

Strategies for three dimensional deployment of tethered satellites
Mechanics Research Communications, 1998Tethered satellites deployed from the Space Shuttle have been proposed for diverse applications. A funda- mental issue in the utilization of tethers is quick deployment and retrieval of the attached payload. Inordinate librations of the tether during deployment and retrieval is undesirable.

Dynamical characteristics of a tethered stabilized satellite
1997This work presents a preliminary investigation of the stability characteristics of a tethered satellite attitude with respect to the local vertical. Other relevant topics analyzed are the influence of orbital eccentricity and tether oscillations on the satellite dynamics and identification of possible resonances.

Research and development of tethered satellite cluster systems
Proceedings. 2000 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2000) (Cat. No.00CH37113), 2002We propose the concept of tethered satellite cluster systems, as an application of the RoboSat clusters. The system consists of some satellites joined by tethers, and keeps and changes the constellation with tension/length control of the tethers to perform various orbit service missions.

Controlling short-tethered satellites
Acta Astronautica, 1980Abstract Because of the interference with the spacecraft, especially particle experiments have to be performed on cable booms. Also for other extravehicular activities telescopic arms, bar linkages and tethers are used. The objective of this paper is to describe a method of controlling and manoeuvring short-tethered systems.

Modeling and Simulation of Flexible Tethered Satellite System
2018 15th International Conference on Electrical Engineering, Computing Science and Automatic Control (CCE), 2018This paper presents the dynamic equations of a flexible tethered satellite system in a circular orbit. The tether is modelled as a combination of point masses connected with massless rods. Through this model the flexibility and distributed mass of tether are considered.

Stability of a tethered satellite subjected to stochastic forces
Acta Astronautica, 1991Abstract This paper considers the problem of the relative equilibrium and stability of a tethered subsatellite (TSS), when the aerodynamic forces can be only probabilistically evaluated. The location in the space of the TSS is thus a stochastic process. The range of possible stationary states of the system is determined and a procedure is adopted for
