Altered Antibiotic Tolerance in Anaerobic Digesters Acclimated to Triclosan Or Triclocarban [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bench-scale anaerobic digesters were amended to elevated steady-state concentrations of triclosan (850 mg/kg) and triclocarban (150 mg/kg) using a synthetic feed.

The effects of oxytetracycline on the intestinal Escherichia coli flora of newly weaned pigs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Four recently weaned pigs were dosed orally with oxytetracycline. This caused a rapid increase in the incidence of tetracycline resistance (TcR) among Escherichia coli isolates from the faecal flora.

Health risk assessment of ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, and oxytetracycline residues in raw, frozen, and boiled broiler chicken available in a local area of Bangladesh

open access: yesFrontiers in Antibiotics
IntroductionThe misuse of antibiotics in poultry farming is a global issue.ObjectiveThe focus of this study was the health risk assessment of consumers from the determination of ciprofloxacin (CIP), tetracycline (TC), and oxytetracycline (OTC) in broiler

Overlap of Antibiotic Resistant Campylobacter jejuni MLST Genotypes Isolated From Humans, Broiler Products, Dairy Cattle and Wild Birds in Lithuania [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Antimicrobial resistance was determined for 341 thermophilic Campylobacter jejuni isolates obtained from human clinical cases (n = 101), broiler products (n = 98), dairy cattle (n = 41) and wild birds (n = 101) with known multilocus sequence types (MLST)

Activity of Omadacycline Alone and in Combination against Carbapenem-Nonsusceptible Acinetobacter baumannii with Varying Minocycline Susceptibility

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Tetracycline-based combinations are increasingly used for serious carbapenem-nonsusceptible Acinetobacter baumannii (CNSAb) infections given their potent in vitro activity, synergism with other agents, and acceptable toxicity profile.

Tertiary-Treated Municipal Wastewater is a Significant Point Source of Antibiotic Resistance Genes Into Duluth-Superior Harbor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this study, the impact of tertiary-treated municipal wastewater on the quantity of several antibiotic resistance determinants in Duluth-Superior Harbor was investigated by collecting surface water and sediment samples from 13 locations in Duluth ...

Antibiotic residues and antibiotic-resistant bacteria in pig slurry used to fertilize agricultural fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Pig manure may contain antibiotic residues, antibiotic-resistant bacteria or pathogens, which may reach the environment upon fertilization. During this study, 69 antibiotic residues belonging to 12 classes were quantified in 89 pig slurry samples.

Oxidative Degradation of Tetracycline by Magnetite and Persulfate: Performance, Water Matrix Effect, and Reaction Mechanism

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
This study presents a strategy to remove tetracycline by using magnetite-activated persulfate. Magnetite (Fe3O4) was synthesized at high purity levels—as established via X-ray diffractometry, transmission electron microscopy, and N2 sorption analyses—and

Modulatory Effects of Caffeine and Pentoxifylline on Aromatic Antibiotics: A Role for Hetero-Complex Formation

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Antimicrobial resistance is a major healthcare threat globally. Xanthines, including caffeine and pentoxifylline, are attractive candidates for drug repurposing, given their well-established safety and pharmacological profiles.

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.
