3′,4′-Deoxynorlaudanosolinecarboxylic acid (DNLCA), a tetrahydroisoquinoline derived from dopamine and phenylpyruvic acid, has been detected by computerized mass fragmentography in urine of phenylketonuric children and in urine and brain of rats with experimentally induced hyperphenylalaninemia.

Synthesis of novel tetrahydroisoquinoline bronchodilators

The synthesis and bronchorelaxing effects of a series of novel tetrahydroisoquinoline amides are described. The compounds were evaluated for their ability to relax LTD4 contracted isolated human small airways ex-vivo. Several compounds demonstrated highly efficacious bronchorelaxing properties.

Regioselective Allylation to a Tetrahydroisoquinoline

The p-quinol acetate (1a) reacted with allyltrimethylsilane in dichloromethane in the presence of acid (BF 3 .Et 2 O or CF 3 COOH) to give 8-allylcorypalline (3), while in acetonitrile to give 4-allylcorypalline (7), regioselectively.
