This is the first report to identify 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline and 1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline as endogenous amines from non-treated rat brain. The detection was performed by coupled gas chromatography - multiple ion detection, using heptafluorobutyric anhydride and pentafluoropropionic anhydride as derivatizing reagents.
