Tetraploids, triploids and 2n pollen from diploid interspecific crosses with cassava

open access: yes, 2019
Interspecific crosses of five cultivated cassava varieties (2n=36) were made with two related Manihot species, M. epruinosa (2n=36) and M. glaziovii (2n=36).

Comparative Study of Induced Tetraploid and Diploid Gooseberry (Ribes grossularia L.): Growth, Stomatal, and Leaf Anatomical Traits

open access: yesAgronomy
This study aimed to assess the phenotypic changes in tetraploids of two gooseberry genotypes (‘White Triumph’ and AGR9, 2n = 4x = 32) in relation to their diploid counterparts (2n = 2x = 16).

A CCNA1 Missense Variant Associated With Chromatid Non‐Disjunction in Abnormal‐Headed Sperm and Male Infertility

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Macrozoospermia is a rare form of teratozoospermia characterized by tetraploids, large‐headed spermatozoa with multiple flagella, usually caused by bi‐allelic AURKC mutations. The etiology of atypical phenotypes with a lower proportion of large headed spermatozoa and single flagella however often remains unresolved.

Musashi‐1 Drives Radioresistance and Stemness in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma via a Radioresistant FaDu Model

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Fractionated irradiation generated radioresistant F‐IRR cells with enhanced CSC properties despite slower proliferation. MSI1 was strongly upregulated and functionally promoted stemness, tumorigenicity, and radiation resistance. JNK signaling acted upstream of MSI1, while JNK inhibition suppressed these malignant traits, identifying the JNK–MSI1 axis ...

Ploidy‐Dependent Response to Anticancer Drugs of Human Embryonic Stem Cells

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Using isogenic hESCs, differing only in their ploidy level, we show the effect of ploidy on the resistance to anticancer drugs. We demonstrate that polyploidy, by itself, confers sensitivity to chemotherapies, leading to higher apoptosis and delayed proliferation, while the loss of p53 reverses the phenotype, demonstrating higher resistance.

Tetraploid Formation from Open-Pollinated Triploid Loquat Provides a Promising Pathway for Large-Scale Seedless Breeding

open access: yesHorticulturae
Triploid loquat (Eriobotrya japonica, 2n = 3x = 51) produces seedless fruit and holds significant breeding value. However, the scarcity of tetraploids hinders large-scale triploid propagation.

Ploidy‐dependent modulation of DNA replication kinetics in Xenopus

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Using an interspecies replication system with Xenopus frog species of different ploidy levels, we investigated how DNA replication adapts to polyploidization. While replication was slower in tetraploid than in diploid nuclei, dodecaploid nuclei unexpectedly replicated faster than tetraploid nuclei. Our findings show that increasing genome size does not

Induction to tetraploidy in catarina scallop, Argopecten ventricosus (Sowerby II, 1842)

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 2003
Induction to tetraploidy by inhibition of the first polar body and first cellular division in fertilized eggs from diploids produced an occasional small percentage of tetraploid D-larvae, but was not successful in multiple experiments with individual ...

Expression Profile Analysis of the Cell Cycle in Diploid and Tetraploid Carassius auratus red var.

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2020
Polyploidization often leads to “transcriptome shock,” and is considered an important factor in evolution of species. Analysis of the cell cycle, which is associated with survival in polyploidy, has proved useful in investigating polyploidization.

Epigenetic processes in a tetraploid mammal

open access: yesMammalian Genome, 2008
Polyploidy has played a most important role in speciation and evolution of plants and animals. It is thought that low frequency of polyploidy in mammals is due to a dosage imbalance that would interfere with proper development in mammalian polyploids. The first tetraploid mammal, Tympanoctomys barrerae (Octodontidae), appears to be an exception to this
