Atropisomerism in linear tetrapyrroles

Tetrahedron, 2002
Abstract Novel bilirubin and biliverdin congeners with propionic acids replaced by o -carboxyphenyl exhibit diastereomerism due to axial chirality about the carbon–carbon single bond linking the o -carboxyphenyl group to a pyrrole ring. Evidence for atropisomerism was found even in the monopyrrole precursor, ethyl 3,5-dimethyl-4-( o -carboxyphenyl ...

Linear tetrapyrroles as ligands

Tetrahedron, 1983
The preparation of the difluoroboron(III) complex ( 4 ) of octaethyl-21 H ,24 H -bilin-1,19-dione is described. X-ray crystal structures are presented for this complex, and for the corresponding nickel complex ( 5 ). Both compounds are 1:1 complexes, and have the Z configuration at all meso bridges.

Biosynthesis of the Tetrapyrrole Ring System

2004
The pathways for the biosynthesis of chlorophyll and respiratory pigments of the heme type make use of the same series of reactions up to the protoporphyrin stage. Judicious use of isotopes, of cell preparations catalyzing some of the reactions involved and degradation techniques specially devised for the task, have allowed the brilliant elucidation of

Photochemistry of tetrapyrrole complexes

2007
The present article reviews the photochemical deactivation modes and properties of electronically excited metallotetrapyrroles. Of the wide variety of complexes possessing a tetrapyrrole ligand and their highly structured systems, the subject of this survey is mainly synthetic complexes of porphyrins, chlorins, corrins, phthalocyanines, and ...

Tetrapyrroles in Photodynamic Therapy

2009
The destructive photosensitising ability of porphyrins in patients suffering from porphyria has been well documented. Patients with those porphyrias that accumulate high levels of porphyrins in the skin suffer from a range of light-activated skin manifestations, the type and severity of which depends on the nature of the porphyrin that accumulates.

Tetrapyrrole Compounds of Cyanobacteria

2014
Abstract Cyanobacteria produce numerous bioactive compounds, most of which have therapeutic properties. Substantial amounts of cyanobacterial cells are thus produced worldwide to meet the high demand of both the food and pharmaceutical industries. Cyanobacteria contain substantial amounts of phycobiliproteins, which act as light-harvesting accessory ...
