Chemical Constituents of Microalgae Tetraselmis convolutae

Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 2019
The first chemical investigation of the marine microalgae Tetraselmis convolutae is reported. Two phytyl esters, phytyl hexadeca-4,7-10,13-tetraenoate (1) and phytyl palmitate (2), and five other compounds, including phytol (3), hexadeca-4,7-10,13-tetraenoic acid (4), poriferasterol (5), palmitic acid (6), and glycerol (7), were isolated from the ...

Flagellar Membrane Proteins of Tetraselmis striata Butcher (Chlorophyta)

Protist, 2000
Highly purified flagella of the green alga Tetraselmis striata (Chlorophyta) were extracted by Triton X-114 phase partitioning. SDS-PAGE analysis revealed that most proteins were present in the aqueous phase, only two prominent flagellar membrane proteins (fmp) of apparent molecular weight 145 and 57 kDa (fmp145 and fmp57) were enriched in the ...

Influence of darkness on pigments of Tetraselmis indica (Chlorodendrophyceae, Chlorophyta)

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 2018
In the photic zone, phytoplankton experience diurnal variation in light intensity. However, prolonged exposure to aphotic condition influences their physiological state. Pigment composition is a useful biomarker to decipher cells physiological state and adaptive response to changing environmental conditions.

Enzymatic and acid hydrolysis of Tetraselmis suecica for polysaccharide characterization

Bioresource Technology, 2014
Carbohydrate composition of the marine microalgae, Tetraselmis suecica was characterized following acidic and enzymatic hydrolysis. Monitoring intracellular starch as a function of cultivation time at varying nitrate concentrations showed a maximum cellular starch content of 45% of dry biomass when grown under nitrate depleted conditions ...

Cryopreservation of members of the genus Tetraselmis used in aquaculture

Aquaculture, 1993
Abstract Commercially important members of the genus Tetraselmis were cryopreserved with high levels of post-thaw viability. Levels of post-thaw viability > 50% for T. suecica (Kylin) Butcher were achieved by employing a simple protocol using glycerol as a cryoprotectant; samples were placed in a coolingbath preset at −30°C for 30 min, followed by ...

Optimum medium for large-scale culture of Tetraselmis tetrathele

Hydrobiologia, 1997
The prasinophyte Tetraselmis tetrathele is an alga commonly used as live food for aquatic animal larvae. The alga is usually cultured in Guillard & Ryther medium (Guillard F) or a fertilizer enriched seawater medium for the large-scale culture of Nannochloropsis.

Kinematic analysis and visualization of Tetraselmis microalgae 3D motility by digital holography

Applied Optics, 2022
A study on locomotion in a 3D environment of Tetraselmis microalgae by digital holographic microscopy is reported. In particular, a fast and semiautomatic criterion is revealed for tracking and analyzing the swimming path of a microalga (i.e., Tetraselmis species) in a 3D volume.

An electrophoretic survey of the genus Tetraselmis (Chlorophyta, Prasinophyceae)

Phycologia, 1986
Abstract A survey of the algal genus Tetraselmis (Chlorophyta, Prasinophyceae) was conducted using starch gel enzyme electrophoresis. Thirteen enzyme loci were resolved and scored, of which nine were invariant among strains. Phenotypes at the four variable loci, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase-1, glutamate–oxaloacetic transaminase-2, malate ...

Response of Tetraselmis suecica to nutrient and grazer manipulation

Journal of Applied Phycology, 1999
Three methods of algal quantification (direct cell counts, chlorophyll a extraction, in vivo fluorescence) were used to evaluate the response of the unicellular green flagellate Tetraselmis suecica to nutrients and grazers. Nutrient enrichment enhanced total cell counts, chlorophyll a concentration and in vivo and DCMU-fluorescence.

Tetraselmis as a challenge organism for validation of ballast water UV systems

Water Research, 2017
Transport and release of waterborne organisms as a result of ballasting and de-ballasting operations is widely acknowledged to represent an important mechanism for invasions by non-indigenous species. Regulatory requirements have been implemented globally to require treatment of ballast water before its release to the environment as a means of ...
