Dynamic filtration with a perforated disk for dewatering of Tetraselmis suecica
Environmental Technology, 2017Dynamic filtration equipped with a perforated disk was adopted for the first time to dewater and concentrate Tetraselmis suecica, from a typical solution of 2-100 g/L of dense biomass suited for the downstream process. An ultrafiltration membrane, polyethersulfone 150 kDa, was found to best perform in terms of high biomass retention and filtration rate.

Applications of Thermal Analysis on the Marine Phytoplankton, Tetraselmis Suecica
Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2001Marine microalgae represent an essential link in the planktonic food web and some of them are commonly utilised in aquaculture systems as food for larval and juvenile stages of fishes, crustacea and mollusca. However, the caloric content and the biochemical composition of these microrganisms vary in relation to ageing and to several environmental ...

Growth of Tetraselmis suecica in a tubular photobioreactor on wastewater from a fish farm
Water Research, 2014Wastewater from a fish farm was remediated in a continuously operated tubular photobioreactor in which Tetraselmis suecica was cultured. The N and P removal efficiencies and the productivity of T. suecica growing on the wastewater were determined. Possibilities to optimize the productivity by adding extra orthophosphate were investigated.

Changes in the partitioning of dissolved inorganic (DIC) and glucose were elucidated by utilising 13C labelled DIC or glucose, and quantifying the biochemical profile of mixotrophic, heterotrophic and photoautotrophic cultures of the microalga Tetraselmis suecica.Mixotrophic cultivation increases microalgal productivity and changes their biochemical ...

Factors affecting the growth and the oil accumulation of marine microalgae, Tetraselmis suecica
Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering, 2011Biomass production and oil productivity in microalgae culture are the most important key factors for algal biodiesel production. However, proper culture condition for the biomass production of microalgae is different from that for the oil production of microalgae.

The microalgaeTetraselmis suecicain mesocosms under different light regimes
Chemistry and Ecology, 2009Pigment profiles and pheopigment accumulation of the microalga Tetraselmis suecica were studied under different spectral irradiances. Irradiance conditions typical of coastal waters with (‘clear’) and without (‘coloured’) chromophoric dissolved organic matter (C-DOM) were simulated in mesocosm cultures.

Inhibition of bacterial fish pathogens by Tetraselmis suecica
Journal of Fish Diseases, 1992Abstract. Supernatants and extracts derived from a commercial heterotrophically grown spray‐dried preparation of Tetraselmis suecica were observed to inhibit Aeromonas hydrophila, A. salmonicida, Lactobacillus sp., Serratia liquefaciens, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Vibrio anguillariim, V. salmonicida and Yersinia ruckeri type I, but not Planococcus sp.

Anti-inflammatory effect of microalgal extracts from Tetraselmis suecica
Food Science and Biotechnology, 2010The aim of the present study was to examine the anti-inflammatory activities of extracts from Tetraselmis suecica with respect to nitric oxide (NO) production, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interlukin (IL)-6 release in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. We prepared methanolic extracts and water extract using protease.

The effect of cooling at night on the 24 hour productivity and biochemical composition of Tetraselmis suecica cultivated in a tubular photobioreactor was determined. The hypothesis that cooling at night would decrease the night respiration rate and therefore enhance the net productivity was rejected.
