The bacterial community associated with Tetraselmis suecica outdoor mass cultures
Journal of Applied Phycology, 2016Interactions between algae and associated bacterial communities in the phycosphere depend on many factors such as culture age, nutrient availability, and antibiotic production and greatly influence algal survival and growth. The microbial community associated with the marine microalga Tetraselmis suecica F&M-M33 in a laboratory culture and an outdoor ...

Nutritional value of spray-dried Tetraselmis suecica for juvenile bivalves
Aquaculture, 1991Juvenile bivalves of five commercially important species (Tapes philippinarum, T. decussata, Mercenaria mercenaria, Crassostrea gigas and Ostrea edulis) were fed a spray-dried preparation of Tetraselmis suecica. Growth and carbohydrate content of the juveniles were measured and compared with animals fed live T.

A multidisciplinary study of iron transport and storage in the marine green alga Tetraselmis suecica
Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry, 2012The iron uptake and storage systems of terrestrial/higher plants are now reasonably well understood with two basic strategies being distinguished: strategy I involves the induction of a Fe(III)-chelate reductase (ferrireductase) along with Fe(II) or Fe(III) transporter proteins while strategy II plants have evolved sophisticated systems based on high ...

Marine Biotechnology, 2001
The impact of different microalgal semicontinuous cultures on growth and biochemical composition in the next link of the food chain was tested using the filter feeder Artemia species as a model. The marine microalga Tetraselmis suecica was cultured semicontinuously with renewal rates between 10% and 50% and used to feed Artemia.

Cadmium Bioaccumulation in Tetraselmis suecica : An Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) Study
Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1997Electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) was used to study the distribution of cadmium within the microalga Tetraselmis suecica when submitted to cadmium contamination. This analytical technique, which is associated to transmission electron microscopes, demonstrated that cadmium was stored specifically in the osmiophilic vesicles of T. suecica.

Microbial interactions in Tetraselmis suecica phycosphere
2017The zone that surrounds microalgal cells is defined as phycosphere. Algae-bacteria interactions in the phycosphere can be neutral, positive or negative for algal growth and can vary depending on the main growth limiting factors. Besides, the same bacteria can either stimulate or inhibit algal growth.

Use of fresh and preserved Tetraselmis suecica for feeding Crassostrea gigas larvae
Aquaculture, 2001Abstract In an attempt to provide cost-effective alternative diets and to simplify hatchery–nursery procedures, substitutes for live microalgae in mariculture were tested and among them, concentrated microalgae have so far appeared to be the best alternative products for bivalves, though there are few experimental studies.

Cyclostat, light/dark-synchronized cultures of the marine microalga Tetraselmis suecica were carried out with six nutrient concentrations: 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 mmol N/l. A renewal of 50% culture volume, equivalent to a dilution rate of 1 day−1 was applied.

In this study, we focused on natural water-soluble antioxidants from Tetraselmis suecica (T. suecica) and Chlorella ellipsoidea (C. ellipsoidea). They were prepared by enzymatic digestion using five carbohydrases (Viscozyme, Celluclast, AMG, Termamyl and Ultraflo) and five proteases (Protamex, Alcalase, Flavourzyme, Neutrase, and Kojizyme), and the ...
