Tetrazolium Salts and Identification of Corynebacterium diphtheriae.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1962
SummaryA simple method for detection of C. diphtheriae by means of nitro blue tetrazolium (NO2BT) is presented. This procedure is based on the marked reducing activity of C. diphtheriae and the very sensitive indicator properties of NO2BT.

Synthesis of 3-(phenylazo)-1,2,4-triazoles by a nucleophilic reaction of primary amines with 5-chloro-2,3-diphenyltetrazolium salt via mesoionic 2,3-diphenyltetrazolium-5-aminides

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2009
The reactions of a 5-chloro-2,3-diphenyltetrazolium salt with amines have been examined. In the presence of an inorganic base such as NaHCO3, primary and secondary amines undergo a nucleophilic substitution to give the corresponding 5-aminotetrazolium ...

Influence of Tetrazolium Salts on Human Pseudocholinesterase.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1960
SummaryNeurotoxic effects of tetrazolium salts may be due to interference with enzyme systems in nerve tissue. Six tetrazolium salts were found to inhibit pseudocholinesterase, with the ditetrazoliums generally exhibiting more marked inhibitory activity than the monotetrazoliums. This may be related to the greater number of tertiary amine groups in the

Design, Synthesis, and Biological Evaluation of Novel Tomentosin Derivatives in NMDA-Induced Excitotoxicity

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2022
N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor stimulation may lead to excitotoxicity, which triggers neuronal death in brain disorders. In addition to current clinical therapeutic approaches, treatment strategies by phytochemicals or their derivatives are under ...

Vital dye reaction and granule localization in periplasm of Escherichia coli.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BackgroundTetrazolium salts are widely used in biology as indicators of metabolic activity - hence termed vital dyes - but their reduction site is still debated despite decades of intensive research.
