High‐resolution pressure myography reveals pressure‐dependent local contractile and geometric dynamics in the renal pelvis and ureter

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Coordinated peristalsis between the renal pelvis and ureter is critical for effective urine transport. However, intraluminal pressure impact on upper urinary tract (UUT) contractility and pharmacologic responsiveness remains poorly understood due to absence of suitable investigative methods.

Puffer smells tetrodotoxin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Behavioral observation was conducted to test whether olfaction is functional to detect tetrodotoxin (TTX) in tiger puffer Takifugu rubripes using Y-maze. We placed either agarose carrier or one agarose and one agarose containing TTX (200 MU) at each head

Tetrodotoxin-resistant sodium channels in neuropathic pain

open access: yes, 2000
Injury to the peripheral nervous system can cause neuropathic pain. Abnormal sodium channel activity has been implicated as a source of ectopic firing and changes in nociceptive threshold following nerve injury.

Toxic mechanism and detection methods of tetrodotoxin [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) was first isolated in the early 20th century and has significant public health implications, especially in areas where puffer fish are consumed, such as Japan.

The Microbial Community of Tetrodotoxin-Bearing and Non-Tetrodotoxin-Bearing Ribbon Worms (Nemertea) from the Sea of Japan

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2020
A potent marine toxin, tetrodotoxin (TTX), found in a great variety of marine and some terrestrial species, leaves intriguing questions about its origin and distribution in marine ecosystems. TTX-producing bacteria were found in the cultivable microflora

Persistent in vitro nociceptor hyperexcitability and axonal retraction produced by repeated paclitaxel doses

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Repeated paclitaxel exposure causes long‐lasting nociceptor hyperexcitability and axonal retraction in adult sensory neurons. Using a long‐term primary nociceptor culture, we show that hyperexcitability is mediated by sequential upregulation of NaV1.8, TRPV1, TRPA1, and TRPM8 channels.

Comparison of the acute inhibitory effects of Tetrodotoxin (TTX) in rat and human neuronal networks for risk assessment purposes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is an extremely toxic marine neurotoxin. TTX inhibits voltage-gated sodium channels, resulting in a potentially lethal inhibition of neurotransmission.

Establishing a protocol to measure tetrodotoxin (TTX) levels in small bodied newts (genus Lissotriton) in western Europe [PDF]

open access: yes
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a defence toxin most commonly found in marine organisms, and amphibians are the only land vertebrates (tetrapods) which are known to produce TTX.

Recent research progress in tetrodotoxin detection and quantitative analysis methods

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry
Tetrodotoxin (TTX) is a highly potent and widely distributed ion-channel marine neurotoxin; it has no specific antidote and poses a great risk to human health.

The Expression of Neuropeptides in Pulpitis: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesInternational Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neuropeptides play key roles in the inflammatory, nociceptive and reparative processes of the dental pulp. Their upregulation has been frequently observed in inflamed pulps, suggesting potential diagnostic value supporting a role for neurogenic inflammation in symptomatic irreversible pulpitis.
