Between Abi Obaid and his critics in Gharib Al Hadith [PDF]

open access: yesآداب الرافدين, 1987
After the book “Gharib Al-Hadith by Abu Ubaid Al-Qasim Bin Salam Al-Herawi (154-224 AH), the most important book in the science of modern hadith, originally from the maturity of the origins of this science, and its usefulness and then the most important ...

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

The Text is a Text is a Text

open access: yesProceedings of the Annual Conference of CAIS / Actes du congrès annuel de l'ACSI, 2013
The paper proposed here examines what history of the book can bring to the study of digital literacy. Current scholarly literature on digital text and literacy is multidisciplinary, dispersed in the social sciences and the humanities between the two cultures of research which are difficult to reconcile.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Reading of different genres of school science texts: a cognitive procedural approach [PDF]

open access: yesInvestigações em Ensino de Ciências, 2011
In this work we assess 14-15 years old students reading comprehension. The students were randomly assigned to read either a textbook or a popular science article passage about the same subject.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an
