AbstractThe reaction of norbornene with lead tetraacetate is found to be much more complex than previously reported. In acetic acid and in benzene, the syn‐7‐norbornenyl, 3‐nortricyclyl, and syn and anti‐7‐acetoxy‐exo‐2‐norbornyl acetates were characterized.

AbstractThe oxidative rearrangement of (E,E)‐4‐alkyl‐2′‐hydroxy‐2‐cinnamylideneacetophenones 4, obtained by base‐catalysed aldol reaction of 2′‐hydroxyacetophenone and cinnamaldehydes with thallium(III) trinitrate, gave the corresponding 3‐alkyl‐4‐aryl‐1‐(2′‐hydroxyphenyl)‐2‐(dimethoxymethyl)‐3‐buten‐1‐ones.

Reactions of ent-16- and ent-15-kaurenes with thallium(III) trinitrate and a sigmatropic rearrangement between the allylic nitrate products

The formation of the allylic nitrates, (1b) and (2b), in the reactions of both ent-16-kaurene (1a) and ent-15-kaurene (2a) with thallium(III) trinitrate, and a [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement between (1b) and (2b), are reported.
