Helvetica Chimica Acta, 1972AbstractThe reaction of norbornene with lead tetraacetate is found to be much more complex than previously reported. In acetic acid and in benzene, the syn‐7‐norbornenyl, 3‐nortricyclyl, and syn and anti‐7‐acetoxy‐exo‐2‐norbornyl acetates were characterized.

AbstractThe oxidative rearrangement of (E,E)‐4‐alkyl‐2′‐hydroxy‐2‐cinnamylideneacetophenones 4, obtained by base‐catalysed aldol reaction of 2′‐hydroxyacetophenone and cinnamaldehydes with thallium(III) trinitrate, gave the corresponding 3‐alkyl‐4‐aryl‐1‐(2′‐hydroxyphenyl)‐2‐(dimethoxymethyl)‐3‐buten‐1‐ones.

The formation of the allylic nitrates, (1b) and (2b), in the reactions of both ent-16-kaurene (1a) and ent-15-kaurene (2a) with thallium(III) trinitrate, and a [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement between (1b) and (2b), are reported.
