CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Multi-Level Multimodal Common Semantic Space for Image-Phrase Grounding [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2018
We address the problem of phrase grounding by learning a multi-level common semantic space shared by the textual and visual modalities. We exploit multiple levels of feature maps of a Deep Convolutional Neural Network, as well as contextualized word and ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

A Close-to-linear Topic Detection Algorithm using Relative Entropy based Relevance Model and Inverted Indices Retrieval [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems, 2012
Although timely access to information is becoming increasingly important and gaining such access is no longer a problem, the capacity for humans to assimilate such huge amounts of information is limited.

Likelihood-informed dimension reduction for nonlinear inverse problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The intrinsic dimensionality of an inverse problem is affected by prior information, the accuracy and number of observations, and the smoothing properties of the forward operator.

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Multiple sclerosis and pregnancy- treatment considerations

open access: yesJournal of Pre-Clinical and Clinical Research, 2020
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease which, due to the destruction of the fibres of the central nervous system in the process of demyelination, leads to numerous neurological symptoms and progressive disability. The disease is autoimmune,

Learning to deal with risk: what does reinforcement learning tell us about risk attitudes? [PDF]

open access: yes
People are generally reluctant to accept risk. In particular, people overvalue sure gains, relative to outcomes which are merely probable. At the same time, people are also more willing to accept bets when payoffs involve losses rather than gains.

Analysis and Performance Evaluation of the ZEM/ZEV Guidance and its Sliding Robustification for Autonomous Rendezvous in Relative Motion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Devising closed-loop guidance algorithms for autonomous relative motion is an important problem within the field of orbital dynamics. In this paper, we study the guided relative motion of two spacecraft for which one of them is executing an autonomous ...
