Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Environmental predictors of distribution of herbaceous endemic species from lateritic rock outcrops of the Western Ghats and Konkan region, India

open access: yesDiscover Plants
Endemism serves as an ecological metric and indicator, informing conservation planning worldwide. Within this context, the Western Ghats emerge as a pivotal biogeographical region, particularly renowned for its rich array of endemic species.

Relationships among protozoa, bacteria and fungi in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-contaminated soils

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Soil bacterial and fungal communities play key roles in the degradation of organic contaminants, and their structure and function are regulated by bottom-up and top-down factors. Microbial ecological effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Optimizing sampling interval length in species abundance comparison using the Royle-Nichols occupancy model

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation
The Royle-Nichols occupancy model is commonly used for comparison of wildlife abundance between sites or years with biomonitoring data, such as camera-trap or bioacoustics records.

Definite Identifiers of Silver Dye Bleach Prints

open access: yesHeritage, 2022
Among diverse contemporary colour prints, silver dye bleach prints and chromogenic prints are difficult to differentiate. They share similar visual characteristics and can use identical supports and surface finishes.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
