A UNIFIED THEORY OF TRUTH AND PARADOX
The Review of Symbolic Logic, 2019AbstractThe sentences employed in semantic paradoxes display a wide range of semantic behaviours. However, the main theories of truth currently available either fail to provide a theory of paradox altogether, or can only account for some paradoxical phenomena by resorting to multiple interpretations of the language, as in (Kripke, 1975).

How should we treat the liar and kindred paradoxes? A Theory of Truth argues that we should diverge from classical logic, and presents a new formal theory of truth. The theory does not incorporate contradictions and is not substructural, but deviates from classical logic significantly, and endorses principles like 'No sentence is both true and false ...

Semantic Theory And Necessary Truth
Synthese, 2001A semantic explanation of the relation between contingency of a sentence and its necessitation is offered. The solution (accepting that ``the categories of having a true necessitation and being necessarily true may come apart'') is accompanied by more general considerations concerning the task to be solved by a cognitive semanticist.

On characteristic of any proposition we know is that it must be true. If it is not true, we cannot be said to know it. Truth is involved in knowing. A proposition can be true without being known to be true, but it cannot be known to be true without being true. The word ‘true’ is used in many senses.

AbstractSceptics have often cast doubt on the legitimacy of claims to the effect that our best scientific theories are true. One ground for such scepticism is the fact that our theories advert to the existence and nature of unobservable entities and features of the world.

A theory of truth is supposed to tell us what it is for something to be true or false. But what kind of “something” is at issue here? What are the bearers of truth and falsehood? Philosophical discussions of truth tend to revolve around four broad categories of truth bearers: sentences (utterances), statements (assertions), beliefs (judgments, thoughts)

This entry surveys five influential medieval theories of truth, paying particular attention to the bearers of truth within each theory as well as to their emphasis, whether metaphysical or semantic. (1) Anselm’s notion of truth is characterized by the concept of rectitude: something is true if it is/does what it ought to be/do, that is, if it conforms ...
