A Clinical Trial of The Evaluation of Environmental Exposure in Yttrium 90 Radioembolization [PDF]

open access: yesSakarya Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü Dergisi, 2018
Aim: The aim of this study is to measure the dose rate of twodifferent forms of Y-90 microsphere used for radioembolization and to evaluatethe results according to radiation safety regularities.

Y-90 microshperes in the treatment of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesThe Saudi Journal of Gastroenterology, 2008
A small percentage of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are candidates for curative treatment in form of resection or transplantation. There are different treatment options for unresectable HCC-like local ablative therapies and recently ...

Measure of 90Y-glass microspheres residue post-TARE using PET/CT and potential impact on tumor absorbed dose in comparison 99mTc-MAA SPECT/CT dosimetry. [PDF]

open access: yesEJNMMI Rep
Transarterial radio-embolization (TARE) became a routine procedure for non-resectable liver tumor mainly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Personalized dosimetry to the index lesion increased tumor response rate. However, there is no requirement to measure

AAPM Medical Physics Practice Guideline 14.a: Yttrium-90 microsphere radioembolization. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Appl Clin Med Phys
Abstract Radioembolization using Yttrium‐90 (90Y) microspheres is widely used to treat primary and metastatic liver tumors. The present work provides minimum practice guidelines for establishing and supporting such a program. Medical physicists play a key role in patient and staff safety during these procedures.

Reimbursement of interventional oncology in Australia: How it works and how it does not

open access: yesJournal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology, Volume 67, Issue 8, Page 915-925, December 2023., 2023
Summary The practice of interventional oncology (IO) embodies all the qualities that one would expect to find in a modern, value‐based healthcare system. A dynamic, cutting‐edge specialty like IO uses highly‐targeted, minimally‐invasive, image‐guided techniques to deliver cost‐effective, personalised medicine for cancer patients.

Clinically Translatable Phosphonated Silica Microspheres for Selective Internal Radiation Therapy of Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 3, Issue 10, October 2023., 2023
Phosphonated silica microspheres (PSM) are prepared by a facile method to be radiolabeled with 177Lu in a rapid and effective manner. The prepared 177Lu‐PSM exhibits excellent antitumor activity and SPECT/CT imaging capability, which indicate that 177Lu‐PSM might hold considerable potential for translation to clinical applications.

Radioactive Microspheres for Selective Internal Radiation Therapy of Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, Volume 3, Issue 6, June 2023., 2023
This review focuses on radioactive microspheres by elaborating the recent achievements from a comprehensive view of facile preparation, biodegradability, and multifunction and summarizes the challenges the radioactive microspheres are facing in selective internal radiation therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma. Selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT)

TACE versus TARE for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma: Overall and individual patient level meta analysis

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 12, Issue 3, Page 2590-2599, February 2023., 2023
In this overall and individual level meta‐analysis, patients with hepatocellular carcinoma treated with transarterial chemoembolization and transarterial radioembolization (TARE) showed similar survival. Patients treated with TARE however, had a longer time to tumor progression. Abstract Background Transarterial radioembolization (TARE) is increasingly

A critical review of bioactive glasses and glass–ceramics in cancer therapy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Glass Science, Volume 14, Issue 1, Page 69-87, January 2023., 2023
Abstract There is an ongoing profound shift in using glass as a primarily passive material to one that instills active properties. We believe and demonstrate that bioactive glasses (BGs) and glass–ceramics (BGCs) as functional biomaterials for cancer therapy can transform the world of healthcare in the 21st century.
