Use of Yttrium-90 Microspheres (Therasphere®) in a Patient with Unresectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma Leading to Liver Transplantation [PDF]

open access: yesLiver Transplantation, 2005
Prior to therapy, model for end stage liver disease (MELD) scoring, diagnostic imaging and tumor staging were performed in a patient with T3 HCC. The patient received an orthotopic liver transplant (OLT) 42 days after treatment. The explant specimen showed complete necrosis of the target tumor.

Correlating serum alpha-fetoprotein in hepatocellular carcinoma with response to Yttrium-90 transarterial radioembolization with glass microspheres (TheraSphere™) [PDF]

open access: yesHPB, 2020
Few studies have assessed the relationship between serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and yttrium-90 (Y-90) radioembolization response in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The objective of the study was to evaluate whether peri-procedural serum AFP was correlated with Y-90 therapy response in HCC.Patients undergoing Y-90 radioembolization with glass ...

Utility of Quantitative Tc-MAA SPECT/CT for yttrium-Labelled Microsphere Treatment Planning: Calculating Vascularized Hepatic Volume and Dosimetric Approach. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
International audienceObjectives. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of SPECT/CT for volume measurements and to report a case illustrating the major impact of SPECT/CT in calculating the vascularized liver volume and dosimetry prior to

Image_1_Use of X-Ray Fluorescence Microscopy for Studies on Research Models of Hepatocellular Carcinoma.TIF

open access: yes, 2021
Introduction: TheraSphere® microspheres containing yttrium 90Y are among many radioembolization agents used clinically to reduce liver tumor burden, and their effects on cancer volume reduction are well-established.

978 Prolonged Survival With Radioembolization Using Theraspheres in Unresectable HCC

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Gastroenterology, 2019
INTRODUCTION: Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) with Yttrium 90 using glass beads (Theraspheres) is increasingly being used for the treatment of unresectable Hepatocellular carcinoma approved by the FDA as a Humanitarian Device (HUD exemption). We are presenting data on 70 patients at our center (out of 130) that have

Hepatocellular Carcinoma—How to Determine Therapeutic Options

open access: yesHepatology Communications, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 342-354, March 2020., 2020
Deciding on specific treatment strategies involves not only tumor stage, performance status, and severity of underlying liver disease, but additional factors such as biomarkers, organ availability, and radiographic tumor response to treatment. In this review, we present hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases to highlight how to determine therapeutic ...

Feasibility of imaging 90Y microspheres at diagnostic activity levels for hepatic radioembolization treatment planning

open access: yesMedical Physics, Volume 47, Issue 3, Page 1105-1114, March 2020., 2020
Purpose Prior to 90Y hepatic radioembolization, a dosage of 99mTc‐macroaggregated albumin (99mTc‐MAA) is administered to simulate the distribution of the 90Y‐loaded microspheres. This pretreatment procedure enables lung shunt estimation, detection of potential extrahepatic depositions, and estimation of the intrahepatic dose distribution.

Efficacy and Prognostic Factors for Y‐90 Radioembolization (Y‐90) in Metastatic Neuroendocrine Tumors with Liver Metastases

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Background. Yttrium‐90 (Y‐90) can be an effective liver‐directed therapy for patients with metastatic neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), but population‐based data are limited. We characterized the use of Y‐90 in NET patients and identified factors associated with response. Methods.
